  1. My wife tells me that my current Plantronics USB headset leaks a lot of sound when I'm listening. Any recommendations for something with less leakage? Requirements:

    - USB wired headset with boom mic

    - Stereo, over-ear

    - Budget c. £50/$50

Obviously "reasonable" sound quality is desirable.

    Many thanks, Mike.

Played in bands for 30+ years and I think the itch has been scratched

Interesting. I'm probably racking up 35 years in bands, but I'm not ready to give it up. As mentioned earlier in this thread, I don't feel the need to "be in a band", but I'm enjoying the freedom of pickup/sub gigs. I still get a thrill from the "great to have you on board, here are the 30 songs for Saturday" process.

    Cheers, Mike.

    as expected no midi din.

No use to me. Shame may have been a lower tier option if action was sweet for a semi weighted in my quest to reduce the lug.

Plus price ive seen makes the Numa Cocal 2x an absolute bargain.

Spot on. That Numa plays very strongly in its little niche.

The action from the CP88 in the CK88, or at least an action that is better/faster than my Studioligic SL88 Grand.

And a nice synth action in the CK61. It would also be cool to see some drawbars on this one.

I would also love to see physical controllers geared toward live performance along for the ride on both units.

A controller keyboard with the audio interface from the Modx and other models would be handy.

The ability to program splits/layers into multiple onboard presets, each of which can send multiple program changes and controller changes on multiple channels when selected.

The ability to act as a USB host.

But yeah, decent action and USB audio interface.

    Cheers, Mike.

I see... Are those vertical tubes made of metal? If so  you could cut a hole to insert the horizontal section of the mic bar through it, so it does not move in any direction (and then use the clamp as shown on the vertical tube in the middle image).

That's a very good idea. Yes the vertical tubes are steel.

In the past I've not been brave enough to drill metal, maybe I need to now summon the courage. If I do it right, I could use a couple of threaded nuts to secure the hex bar to the vertical steel tube.

Coincidentally, earlier this week I was sacked from a band I wanted to leave. It did feel like a load off my mind - thanks @RABid

    Cheers, Mike.

Update - the band did one gig without me, and then broke up. I'm not saying my absence caused it...

...but I'm not NOT saying it either.

    Cheers, Mike.

    Your entire post nailed it.😎

+2. Years ago somebody posted here to the effect of: bands are part of the human mating ritual. Bars hire bands to get women to dance, so that men will buy them drinks, in the hope of, well, mating.

I decided to go with the KP612s.  Definitely a bit bigger than I anticipated, but seems easy enough to carry.   So far I'm very happy with what I'm hearing.  Hammond and Rhodes are of course excellent, but I was really impressed with strings and synth.  Those have always been a struggle in the past.  The expand feature is awesome, but I've found you definitely need to back off on reverb when using it.  The other pleasant surprise, it sounds amazing on electric guitar!   I'm running a line 6 HX Stomp in direct mode (as if I were going into a FRFF system) and it is killer!!!

I was a little confused too see ports on the back, as I thought this model was changed to a front facing port.  Perhaps they changed the design, but the pics on sweetwater show a closed back.

Anywho, looking forward to my next gig in a few weeks to see how it holds up in the mix with a loud band.

Nice, it does look quite the beast! I'm not in the market, but I think the 408 would be more in my comfort zone.

    Good luck.

    Cheers, Mike.

Bluetooth is too slow for real-time audio transmission.

Yes - for "synchronous" reproduction. If you're playing along to bluetooth tracks (and your instrument uses a wired connection), it's OK.

EDIT - Scott, I see you were replying to MPN21's comment about wireless connection between a stereo pair. You are of course 100% correct that Bluetooth is too slow for that.

    Regards, Mike.

  11. Team KC, I need your advice once again. I want to mount a mic boom arm onto my hacked-down stand (see this post). Most of the obvious solutions (such as the On-Stage KSA7575) don't have a suitable mounting point. This pic shows what I've got to work with (the top of the upright supports my upper board).

Years ago I bought a K&M 240/5, which allows a hexagonal bar (with mic thread) to be clamped to a tabletop or pipe, and I'm wondering if this can be pressed into service. However, if I attach it to the upright:

    IMG_5211.thumb.JPG.9170c75eb16a04564be8486de7f43795.JPG

there is insufficient grip on the hexagonal bar to prevent it slipping down when supporting weight.

If I clamp the base of the hexagonal bar to the horizontal arm on my stand:

    IMG_5212.thumb.JPG.c727c0de2b0c7e47ba3ba543398b16c6.JPG

there's obviously a lot of wobble at the top.

I would welcome any ideas from the hive mind...

    Cheers, Mike.

The middle E is getting stuck now and again

Is the damper getting stuck against adjacent dampers and not returning fully? The trick is to heat a knife (e.g. over a gas flame) and use it to burn off the straggling bits of felt that have been pushed beyond the edges of the damper.

(The author assumes no responsibility for injury or damage caused as result of this advice).

I wouldn't be there to hear that as I would have left after the 2nd one was added.

I'm sure some bands make all those guitarists work (Snarky Puppy does!) but not any of the ones I've been in....

When you're adding that many guitarists, you audition them on how well they DON'T play.

I did a pickup gig last week.  No rehearsals. Learned the tunes. Showed up to the gig.  Played the set.  Had a blast.  Mercenary muso is the best way to go.

A solid musician can always find a gig.  Best of luck to all who are liberating themselves from the issues that come with being in a band😎

I'm learning that lesson one gig at a time. Every introduction leads to another - even years later. And what makes a "solid musician" isn't just chops. Professionalism, preparation and attitude go a long way.

Plus you can't put a price on being able to say "thanks, but no thanks".

    Cheers, Mike
