  1. Well, you said you want a sound at least as good as your home setup. Since you are running in stereo, you may not be satisfied with the mono Bose. I love the Bose equipment, and had an L1 series 2 but did not like how my Forte sounded through it. One more issue. If you want to use the"self monitoring" aspect of the Bose, that may be fine in a small environment. My duo had problems in a long rectangular room playing from a recessed stage (short walls on each side). Because of the wide dispersion of the Bose, much of the energy was wasted on the stage. We had to turn the system up to ear blasting levels. Having said that, I wish I could use the Bose - it is a great system. As others have said, it may well be your best bet. My current duo is using 2 QSC K8.2s. I know, you want one speaker. and one K8.2 would work well for you if you don't need stereo . I've used the K8.2s since I sold the Bose a few years ago. As other have said, the K8.2s do not have effects. The built in mixer, however, is quite good.
  2. Absolutely agree - EPs really nice. And Dave, thanks for your initial review - it convinced me to give the Numa X a try. Now I have a Numa X 88 and a GT! They have proven great to gig with!
  3. I don’t agree with the *generally lesser) piano”. I have a Nord Grand sitting beside my Numa X GT and the Nord pianos, to my ear, are no better than the GT. In most cases I prefer the GT pianos. Agree with the rest.
  4. Here is the scoop. It is easy to change the Program name. You use Numa Manager. However, you cannot currently name a Midi zone. Studiologic would like to add that capability, but they are making no promises. Unfortunately, the name parameter mentioned by CyberGene does not do what we want.
  5. Another neat feature is the 4 channel audio mixer with 4 analog inputs. I use it in my duo - between that and the USB midi and audio interface I don’t even take a mixer. I hope to present some info on my microphone experiences in the future. And when we talk budget Swiss Army knife, remember that since Fatar owns Studiologic we probably are not paying for pass through on the cost of the keybed. This helps keep the cost down and adds value. Based on the construction and performance of the Numa X, the only thing budget about it is the cost. For my purposes, the TP110 and TP400 (both are new versions), are the best keybeds I’ve played in a long time. I will be selling my Nord Grand. In fairness, to each their own.
  6. I think we are seeing how well Studiologic designed the architecture of the Numa. I’m supprised no one else noted the 4 zone midi capability. It was one of the reasons I bought the Numa X. Noah DC figured it out - he is using the keyboard the way it was meant to be. Well done, Noah DC!
  7. The organs are useable in some situations. I am not pleased with the rotary effect, though. You will not be happy with ramp up/down. In my case, and as others have suggested, I use B-3X - it integrates so easily over USB for Midi and audio. I understand your wish for freeing up a zone. Try the organ, its tweaks and the rotary tweaks - you might find what you need.
  8. Update 2.0 improved the APs and EPs. Update 2.1 just improved the EPs even more. Overdrive is also improved.
  9. I can answer this. Simply put, no. Here are a few of the differences. -EPs are modeled on the Numa X. EPs on the Compact are sampled. -Acoustic piano modeling for string resonance, etc., are more complex due to the processing power of the Numa X. Some of the modeling doesn't exist on the Compact. -Sample size is different on the two - obviously larger on the Numa X -And the effects are different for the two - different in terms of implementation and capacity -In the Compact's favor is the organ. I will say that as fara ssampled organs go, the Numa X isn't bad. My information is derived from conversations (email) I have had with Studiologic.
  10. May be the same keybed but not necessarily the same touch. The Piano 5 uses a version os the TP40H - the heavier touch for piano. A multipurpose keyboard like the stage will likely want a TP40M or L.
  11. Piano memory still 2GB, yes sample memory upgraded, same organ, same 120 polyphony, same high price (at least initially). Nice interface, drawbars, each panel effects, triple sensor key beds, etc. Nothing earth shaking here. Quite the contrary, a bit disappointing. I have a Nord Grand and 2 Studiologic Numa X’s and there is nothing here to make me want the Stage 4.
  12. Yes. I have a TP110 in a Numa X and it is really nice.
  13. This is the post to read! Great synopsis, Joe. You nailed it!
  14. The biggest take away from Effortless Mastery is get rid of your ego. And he provides a lot of help in figuring out how to do so. As to the meditations, I don’t like them. There are a number of better ones you can find anywhere. But the idea is pretty good. If it helps you get rid of your ego, the book is for you. Finally, the book is not really a method per se. It is worth reading, though. Very easy read.
  15. Unfortunately Chuck passed away in 2002, Marge in 2010, and Robert in 2013. The store is still run by his remaining sons. And the good news is it still has the spirit and character of Chuck. My first experience with Chuck was in 1962 when he was on H Street in Washington, DC - not the best location. I was ambushed one time in the winter by a bunch of snowball renegades. Regardless, I bought a bunch of stuff from them. The Wheaton store is in a much better location, not to mention it is far larger than the H street store. And I still buy a bunch of stuff from them. Chuck Levin's Washington Music is a great store. Visit and buy - you won't regret it.
  16. The VAX77 also cleverly used weights. The keybed worked well for piano and amazingly, organ. They had three different keybed touches available, and the medium worked the best for piano and organ. Wish I had kept mine.
  17. I too owned a VAX77 - really regret selling it. Infinite Response (VAX77 designer and seller) did a Kickstarter for a "do it yourself" controller. They found a cost effective sensor that would let the controller function much as the VAX77 but at a lower cost. Unfortunately the project didn't succeed. There were quality control issues from IRs suppliers and the "do it yourself" build was inconsistent. Too bad - I really was hoping for a new VAX.
  18. I agree that Chuck Levin's Washington Music is great. However, I doubt they will have the Studiologic Numa X, if that is what you want to try. Believe it or not, they have a limited display (and inventory) of Studiologic products. Otherwise, one of the best for keyboards.
  19. Maybe….. The problem I have with my Nord Grand is it does not have escapement. My Numa X GT does and also has a great (of course my opinion) feel.
  20. A few more (some repetitive): - Don't beat yourself up! You are your own worst critic and believe it or not, you are better than you think. - Play within your current abilities. A simple part played well is much better than a complicated part played poorly. - If you like to read, get a copy of "Effortless Mastery" by Kenny Werner. It might help you deal with your self imposed limits. - The idea never should be the best musician - simply be the best contributor you can. Good luck and stay with it!
  21. I have had great luck with the USB interface with an iPad. You likely have a hardware issue. What iPad/laptop are you connecting to? Perhaps you have a bad USB port. Or If using a PC type laptop, perhaps a corrupted driver? While the Numa X may not have as many editable parameters as you like, it does have a reasonable and effective set - unless you are heavy into programming. I think the internal sounds are excellent. I have a Nord Grand also and rarely play it anymore. The pianos on the Numa X seem at least as good, if not better.
  22. That’s really sad to hear. Jean helped me out on a number of occasions.
  23. Back to Mac Studio noise. I have both an M1 Mini (actually belongs to my wife) and a Mac Studio. Studio is at least as quiet as the Mini. In fact, generally I don’t even hear the Studio fan.
