  1. When they say something "hasn't been tested" and sold "as-is", you know damn well they tried to get it working and it didn't work. Who in their right mind, wanting to get as much as they can for something, isn't going to bother checking to see if it works?
  2. We're going to have our first practice since before all this started this Thursday night, but it will not be in our guitar player's basement as it was before. We'll be having it at the other guitar player's shop (he works at a place that does high volume screen printing on shirts and other clothing). Lots of open space and can open up overhead doors to get wind blowing through, but no A/C and it's been in the 90s around here. I posted a pic on FB the other day when he was at work with a IR Thermometer showing 104 inside....so I guess I'll be dressing lightly for practice.
  3. I don't think we can go off of "reported cases" due to such differences in testing over time and differences state to state. All along, deaths and hospitalizations tell the story. Look at that trend. After all if all the cases are minor or asymptomatic, then who cares anyway, as long as we aren't getting hospitalizations and/or deaths?
  4. The behringer X32 Mixer is on sale at Sweetwater right now CLONK. $2500 gets you the control surface fitted with 32 inputs and you can expand the inputs via various digital means including ethernet up to a total of 96 inputs. I'd take a look at the various expansion options and see what fits your needs. That would be the most budget friendly way to get get a mixer with the number of inputs you need and you get the benefit of all the built-in effects and channel strips.
  5. Did you quantize to 1/8 or 1/16? Reason why I ask is because a note is off at the beginning or end it will sound like a gap because it's looping a measure per the clock but if the notes aren't quantized it will sound like there is a gap at the loop point. What's the sequencer resolution? If 480ppqn then if there is an event edit mode make sure the notes are all on 0 and 240 ticks.
  6. That was in the back of my mind when I posted this, but more along the lines of thinking that I'd post suggestions that were unusable just to have somebody find an example of somebody actually using it.
  7. So kind of the OPPOSITE of THIS thread about synth patches in hits used unaltered. In that case, obviously those patches were very usable out of the box. But many synths had patches that were designed more to demo capabilities without being usable at all in a song. I'll kick it off with the Roland MT-32 (whose sound set made it into the GS set of sounds), "One Note Jam".
  8. I think this is where I am, thank you. Also, I knew of Deoxit and my "Go-to" supplier for all things electronic, parts-express, has it so it's probably what I would have bought anyway. Thanks for the confirmation.
  9. one of our forumites posted an article on Facebook that stated that 13 states had increases in covid-19 cases after "reopening". They went into great detail about those 13 states, then one sentence saying 16 states had major decreases in cases after reopening. Our forum friend was still trying to make the case that the 13 were significant while the 16 were not. Cherrypicking data. To me it says that opening vs not opening isn't the issue, it's how you do it. I'm not saying to go lick each others faces. Wear masks, wash hands, practice distancing where appropriate, but we can open safely. 13 increases, 16 decreases....seems like that favors opening despite the headline.
  10. I may have a buyer for my Moog Opus 3. It was stored without a case for a while and the panel and keys got a little dusty. I cleaned them off with a wipe and while they were wet, they looked AWESOME - like brand new, shiny, beautiful. After drying, back to being kind of flat and dingy. Any kind of armor-all-like cleaner/sealer, etc that I could wipe it with that would keep it looking that way without being harmful or leaving some sort of unwanted coating? I was almost thinking Murphys Oil Soap or Pledge or something of that variety. Also a few of the slider pots got enough dust to get a little scratchy. I'm out of any kind of tuner/pot cleaner/lube so I'll need to order some more online. Any recommendations for the best? I think the last stuff I got was just whatever they had at Radio Shack when it was still open. Only one place I can think of in St. Louis that is still open and sells that kind of stuff and they are geographically inconvenient since the relocated a couple years ago.
  11. I don't own an app for iPad for this (in fact i no longer have an iPad since it was company owned and I had to return it when I lost my job) but maybe instead of audio capture, look at apps that do screen capture with audio to a video, then an app to strip the audio. I used to use Snagit Pro on my PC laptop to create videos of my doing things on my desktop, namely for training videos or to send a video to a customer explaining how to do something with our software. I believe right from snagit you could export various formats, possibly audio only. Maybe there's something similar for iPad.
  12. Dan, It might be the horns (your avatar pic)! Not sharp enough?
  13. Glad to hear you found something, congratulations! I'll chime in with some others - around here, in the Lutheran church, historically an organist would be paid. As they added contemporary services, the organist continued to get paid, but the contemporary musicians almost all volunteer. Quality varies widely on the church depending on the quality of musicians and the size of the pool available to choose from within the congregation. Some of the larger ones that are more focussed on contemporary and maybe don't have an organ or organist, will pay a Musical Director, who picks the songs, supplies the charts, holds rehearsals, etc., however the other musicians aren't paid. I've filled in with some of these churches with a paid MD who reached out to me, but have never been paid.
  14. The WHO retracted that statement. They didn't retract it, they clarified it, the media is saying they're "walking it back" not retracting it. I spoke to this in detail immediately prior to your post. If you don't want to read my subsequent comments and instead quote my initial comment based on what they said Monday, I'll give you the cliff notes of what I posted afterwards: "Spread is Rare if Asymptomatic" - based on a handful of scientific studies "30-40% spread asymptomatic" - based on models (no detail of which model or what data was entered into the model) "We know it has spread from asymptomatic but don't know how much" - latest comments that does not make any correlation to specific activities and/or environmental conditions The main terminology being walked back was the specific term "very rare" because it gave the impression that you can't spread it without symptoms. You CAN spread it when asymptomatic but that doesn't mean it isn't rare. Again, no correlation to circumstances.
  15. I've been going back to the original interview of W.H.O. related to the "very rare comment" as well as the subsequent comments apparently "walking it back" as it's been characterized. I think you can group various things that have been said into a few characterizations. The "very rare" comment was with respect to a collection of studies that have been done. They have not divulged the details of those studies as to how controlled they were or what the environmental conditions were, etc. There was a 30-40% comment made regarding spread from asymptomatic. That apparently came from a model. What data was fed into the model? Which model? We all know the models have been wildly wrong in many cases. Finally, they know that there HAS been spread from people who were asymptomatic, but don't really know how much. I would again add, under which circumstances, environmental conditions, age range, location, etc? Intuitively, it makes sense using basic logic that somebody who is asymptomatic would spread it much less if they are not coughing/sneezing, than somebody who is symptomatic. That doesn't mean they CAN'T spread it, but it would logically be at a much lower rate, especially if you practice common sense behaviors like hand washing. One doctor suggested that asymptomatic spread might be from people breathing heavily from exercise or possibly singing/yelling, etc.....probably not just from regular breathing as has been suggested. So again, they have not done a good job as of yet of releasing concrete data from studies that would tie a rate of spread to specific activities, environmental conditions, etc. People will leave that piece of information out and pick the result that is either the best or the worst, depending on their agenda. I'm going to continue going about my life in a way that makes sense which is relatively unchanged from what I was doing 3-4 months ago. I think when all is said and done, the data will come in line with my choices.
  16. Use google. We've been talking about this for decades. Literally.
  17. You can get foam for the inside of Pelican case but it's expensive. There used to be a place here in town called "Foam Products" that I used in the past even though they were set up for commercial sales, but they went out of business. Some of the fabric places have foam that is decent for a while but doesn't stand the test of time in the long run.
  18. A lot of it is the convenience of picking up the consumables like strings and reeds when you're in there for your lessons. If you have to order online or make a special trip without the music lesson, the local store loses any advantage over the catalog house. Yes, customer loyalty would be nice but I think we've already seen how much customer loyalty means to people as the Guitar Centers of the world have replaced the mom and pops. By the way, World Health Organization is now saying that it isn't spread easily if you are asymptomatic. The "super spreaders" are the people with symptoms.
  19. But I have friends saying "send me your resume" with no idea what the intention is. That's my struggle. Great network of resources, but I need some info for the opportunity.
  20. More difficult - I googled myself to see what turns up. An open DWI case is the #2 hit. State vs me. Lovely. It used to be that one of the top hits was a presentation I gave to the state of MI wastewater conference. My presentation was public for all to see. I'm guessing a potential employer can find it once they get past the fact that I'm in a DWI case that has been dragging on for years.....even longer now since all the covid-19 postponements. My lawyer says I should get 2 yrs probation with nothing on my record, but google already says differently.
  21. All that said, I could use advise on my resume an general approach. I've done a lot of things over the years and have a lot of skills that may or may not apply depending on the job. I have friends saying "send me your resume" to which I counter "what's the opportunity?" I can put together a completely different resume based on industrial instrumentation, vs control panels, vs Web Based programming, vs Database programming, vs Hardware design. If i put it ALL on one resume it would be 5 pages, but for any given opportunity I can make a really good single page resume.
