  1. Here are the lyrics to an instrumental I just wrote: .
  2. Destination is Windows. I will back up my phone to my old 2009 MacBook Pro on an ongoing basis as those will also share iCloud - but as I shared on a recent post, my old MBP will not allow me to change my apple ID from my old work email that I don't have to the new one. I went online to try to do it from there and it warned me that it would wipe the contents of my macbook, so I want to make sure it's all backed up on the same external hard drive first and not rely on iCloud in case it goes horribly wrong. So this is a bit of a hybrid situation but the only INTENDED use of the MBP was to run my Presonus digital mixer and record band practice. Everything else is intended to be PC moving forward.
  3. So Tim, I'm combining files from 2 different PC's, a MBP, and backups I did of my old iPad and iPhone before I lost my job.
  4. I think I made my point about the people who accuse others of being science deniers who refuse to acknowledge science. I'll let you all duke it out as to who is whom in my reference. Couldn't get toilet paper but I got plenty of popcorn. Carry on.
  5. I'm talking ALL backup, not just music related, and not simply doing a compressed backup of a drive. I've been in the process of pulling drives from multiple computers as well as files of iTunes/iPad/iPhone and wanting to put it all together on a singe external 1TB drive. I have space, that's not an issue. I've found after backing up many times over the years some files exist may times in different folders, backups of USB sticks, saved back onto another drive......lots of cleanup needed. At first, it makes sense to group bay pictures, videos, documents, etc. And then maybe categorize by band, date, work, personal, etc....but many files don't fall into that hierarchy. I have files for programs I don't have anymore but some of the library files would still work - like a video program project file might not work without the program, but the VOB files could still be imported or burned to a DVD. I have Microsoft Visual Studio Projects and well as Adobe Dreamweaver Projects, where the project files themselves might not work, but there are plenty of files like html, js, css, etc that are still good and contain libraries of my work. Struggling to come up with a single hierarchy and combine within that structure while eliminating duplicates, keeping the best version, etc. Ideas? So far it's been extremely tedious and time consuming!
  6. What's with Hamilton all of a sudden? I'm seeing a ton of posts on FB about that. Maybe it's on a channel I don't have? My daughter has been into Hamilton for a few years now, but has seen it at the theater.
  7. I'll let you know in November when I have my next gig that was rescheduled from May.
  8. Just popped on to see if anybody was there...just me. I'll leave the window open but if anybody wants to hop on, just shoot me a text at three one four three zero eight two two nine one and I'll head into the room.
  9. There are various versions of this - the idea that you can load a "map" of your sounds in a hardware keyboard into a software sequencer. I've done it in the past with an old version of cakewalk on a computer that has since passed. It was a manual process at the time and any newly written patch in the Kronos had to be manually updated. Seems to me that saving a PCG file from the Kronos should have all the file naming and location information to load into a modern MIDI software sequencer - possibly with some intermediate step to convert to a standardized library file or something. Any thoughts?
  10. The conclusions from the scientists continue to change as they learn more and many continue to disagree. All you have to do is choose the one who disagrees with your political opponent to be THE ONE who is obviously right and anybody who considers what a different scientist says is a science denier, because it"s easier to just cut the legs out from under them than to actually have to consider data that contradicts what you believe.
  11. I don"t mean to complain but I feel like this has gone off the rails between politics and google medical experts. When the news is your source of science and not trusting the media makes you a science denier, we"re all in trouble. This was supposed to be about moving forward as musicians - didn"t realize how many of you were scientists.
  12. This sounds odd to me. Traditionally, you either have a stereo channel with a balance pot, or 2 mono channels with pan pots. In the latter of the two, you pan them hard left and hard right and link the channels so that moving one fader moves them both. In either case it seems the faderport would accommodate.
  13. Is it just me or does each individual post keep getting longer and longer?
  14. I"ll be following the as a novice. I"ve already been doing things that others have said I don"t need to do - like normalize tracks then use the mixer. I Will say I still do what is probably a mistake and after my final dynamics processing including limiters, normalize my mix. Loudness wars, I guess
  15. A few clarifications - I said the room was roughly 10 x 10, not exactly. It"s not a cube, but it is small. There is a closet that protrudes in one corner, one wall is offset on one side of a pocket door, there is a softer halfway along one wall for HVAC, and plenty of other irregular surfaces. If I rearrange as I"m thinking, the back wall IS a bookshelf and the side wall on the side joining the corner is a large window covered by an accordion style blind that breaks things up, room is carpeted. Not ideal but sounds great now despite its size. Alternative if it ends up not sounding good is I can just put the desk smack dab in the middle of the room which would position the speakers where they are currently. Oh, and I do have a nice set of headphones I use. This is not a serious studio. I mostly do rough mix downs after practice, and work on new sounds and parts to be recorded professionally later.
  16. I know this is more studio related, but I also know a number of you own these monitors. In the process of clearing out and reorganizing my office in light of my job loss/hunt, and new refurb computer needed to expedite my efforts, I'm wanting to remove a folding table I had added after previous computer failures/addtions not to mention addition of a large laser jet printer. Why does that matter? The room is small - roughly 10x10 and my desk is in one corner of the room, but the table formed an "L" with the desk in the middle of the room, meaning in the middle of one wall, extended out to the middle of the room. My latest computer was on the table instead of the desk, along with the aforementioned JBL monitors. So I've been super happy with them but they have been basically in the middle of the room with me in front of them on one side and empty room behind them on the other side. If I do what I want to do here and eliminate this table, they'll be on my desk in the corner of the wall with their backs up against the wall. This is my issue - ported speakers against a wall in the corner of the room. Was hoping some of you with some experience with these could let me know how detrimental this may or may not be, before I go through the trouble of reorganizing everything and tearing down furniture.
  17. I had approached this girl previously about doing a full sized 90's alternative girl band and she turned me down. I just assumed she didn't want to do anything. But turns out she was really interested in doing a duo, just not a full sized band. Lots of duo opportunities around here - plus, you only have to get along with one person, only split money 2 ways, and don't need all the rehearsals. I can record myself playing all my parts and send it to her to practice over, almost like Karaoke. We should only need to get together in person a couple times to verify everything's good. I was super happy with my duo back in the 90s - we never had a single conflict about anything and gigs were abundant.
  18. Yes I played in a successful duo through most of the 90s but it was with a guitar player. Given that she doesn"t play any instruments, I"m guessing i"ll need to work on my guitar chops and sequence more of the keys since most guitar parts sound cheesy on the keys.
  19. Didn't mean to but kind of wanted to. I was posting on Facebook and there was a girl singer that I REALLY wanted to do this 90s alternative girl band thing with (think Garbage, Hole, etc). She turned me down but I mistakenly thought she had turned me down for a duo as well. I didn't immediately reveal this but realized later that I was trying to do a duo with her EX boyfriend guitar player and THAT is what fell though. SO on Facebook, she's like "LETS DO THIS" and I'm thinking she's saying let's start investigating if we want to do it and talk about potential songfests....no, IT'S ON! I kinda like that am sort of like, OK, send me a list, it's on, we'll do it!!!! I'm kind of excited.
  20. My piano has been way out of tune for a while. It started when I moved out through my divorce and the piano stayed. I moved back in with my piano after I bought my ex out of the house after a refi and some legalities. Financial issues ensued as one would expect and piano tuning took a back seat. I have plenty of digital boards always in tune to play and usually I was practicing on the rig I'd be playing money making gigs on, rather than the piano. Fast forward to still broke but also unemployed with a horribly neglected piano. ....I don't play it. I play my digital boards until I can scrape up the funds to get it tuned (assuming that's more important than food). I DO miss my piano and sometimes sit down to play anyway and immediately get bummed out by the sound and go to a digital keyboard.
  21. Guess I missed the party. My daughter's having a sleepover and I had to make pizzas and entertain earlier.
  22. I've used PZM Boundary mics for non-music applications in some meetings I've had when you want to pick up conversation from the room - mainly when you want to record the speaker but also Q&A with attendees. I've also used it as sort of a room mic in live recordings where I couldn't get a board mix or anything like that, ,purely as a back of the room mic for ambience and crowd reaction.
  23. Talk it over with your agent. They get commission and will want to keep you as a happy customer. It's been my experience that an independent agent looks out for your best interest - that is assuming you're talking with the independent agent and not directly with an adjuster or something like that.
  24. It's too bad the band I used to frequently fill in with isn't around anymore (band leader passed away last July). That band was named "Contagious".
