  1. DBM, My Grandfather was Irish, so I figured my mother at 50% and me at 25% all my life. Then I took the DNA test and I came out at 35%. So I'm guessing my grandmother had some Irish in her as well! But it doesn't really matter as the Holiday celebration was started right here in the US, so we are all Irish for at least one day a year LOL! :2thu:
  2. Skip, my guy(s) would adjust the truss rod for me. So if your "guitar shop guy" doesn't want to try adjusting it there might be a risk in trying to tighten or loosen it yourself. I think Kuru will chime in and give you some good ideas if you are going to adjust it yourself. He's a tech and has some good know how techniques. I would try a drop of penetrating oil (used on freeing rusted bolts and nuts). Let it sit overnight. Loosen the strings (tuning down a half step) and try to turn the truss counter clockwise no more than a 1/4 turn. If it doesn't move, repeat with another drop and try again the next day. Or you can find a new guitar guy that will tackle the problem for you. I'm assuming it's not a fret buzz or nut problem. Good luck with it and keep us posted! :cool:
  3. HAPPY ST. PADDY'S DAY TO ALL OUR FORUMITES! Hope you're wearing the green so that all your pots of gold will get you those pedals, guitars and equipment you're dreaming of!

     

    We could not celebrate our annual celebration last year due to Covid19. This year the family will get together for our annual BBQ'ed corn beef, cabbage, Irish Whisky, guitar, mandolin, violin, and a little fun!

  4. Good luck with the new Pedal Kuru! I had (may still have) a Tech 21 Blonde and +1, it was a great piece of equipment. Great for a clean boost with the Fender Tweed amp sound and also great for distortion or OD... :cool:
  5. Well, when I win the Lottery I'm going to have Fender's Custom Shop make me a Brent Mason Tele, in sunburst, with binding. Without the B Bender. It's just the best combination of useable, yet different pickup combinations I've heard on any guitar. I guess I'd need a Strat style trem & an ebony fingerboard while I'm at it.

     

    I'd have to put a Warmoth fatback 1 7/8" at the nut with super jumbo frets on there and a straight 16 degree radius. I do like the maple on a Tele, I'd go for a one piece quarter sawn.

     

    I didn't catch what the 3 pots did but I might just want a switch instead of the 3rd pot, and put it in between the two pots.

     

    Last but not least, I'd want a chambered mahogan body, flamed maple top with the belly and arm carve and binding. Plus gold plated parts and a G&L bridge with locking saddles.

     

    Might as well go whole hog!!!!

     

    No whammy, no B-bender, one piece Birdseye maple neck, cherry sunburst with belly carve body... :drool::2thu:

  6. I love the sound he gets with the mini-humbucker at the neck (the same as my old LP Deluxe). I could do without the B-bender (even though I love the steel guitar sound) as I could never get used to the strap pulling concept (same as Marty Stuart's guitar), and that little arm bar at the neck joint might get in my way. I really liked the demo as he went through all the clean settings first and then added a little distortion at the end and went through them again. That guitar can get every sound from clean jazz to die hard country and everything in between. The stacked pups in the bridge and middle would take care of any single coil hum. Just a rockabilly, jazz, rock and roll, country, country rock, special that I really like along with a little bit of Strat tone much like the Nashville Tele. If I was going to buy a Tele (made in Corona California) for $2,600, that would be the one I would want! I would just have to put up with that B-bender LOL! :cool:

     

    ps. love the locking tuners too!

  7. Thanks Scott! Yeah, that would work for me. That would be a great way to get a 3way and two volumes and a master tone on the Tele body Wraub was looking at... :thu:

     

    ps. great cool video demo on the Brent Mason Tele on the site, well worth the time to watch! Makes me drool! :drool:

  8. Wraub, I would probably go with the Strat body even though I'm not a fan of that stock top volume knob location even though it's good for volume swells (too close to the E string IMHO). I like the Tele body but I don't think there is enough room for two volume pots and a tone pot? Not able to see the back on the Tele body to see if it's flat or contoured for the belly like a comfortable Strat. The newer Tele bodies are contoured which I like. Anyway keep us posted! :cool:
  9. We flew down and were at a concert in Vegas on March 4th with 3 other couples last year. We had a great time and there was little if any knowledge of the virus. I noticed when we returned to our local airport in Sacramento that there were very few cars in the parking lot. So I guess word was getting out and people were not flying. We were all lucky as this may have been the last of the concerts in Vegas and all of us have made it through so far.

     

    I have had both of my shots through the VA and my wife will get her 2nd shot on the 15th at CVS. California is starting to open up now but we both will still be wearing masks when around others.

     

    I am very thankful that most if not all, our forum members are still with us. Looking forward to things getting back to normal as soon as possible...Take care everyone and stay safe! :thu:

  10. Wraub, +1 on Caevan's suggestion of having two volume controls with a 3way and using your 3rd pot slot for a master tone.

     

    I used a pair of US made 57 Gibson gold humbuckers on my last upgrade as they are my favorite pups. I put the strongest one in the bridge position. (same wiring as an LP and I'm using two volume and two tone controls)...

     

    I used a Switchcraft 3way toggle switch

     

    22iu Orange Drop capacitors

     

    500k Gibson audio taper pots (fine spline and speed knobs)

     

    It really wasn't cheap but it really came out sweet! Good luck on the project! :thu:

  11. I pay more attention to the neck fretboard width, neck shape and neck thickness than I do to the scale length. I can play on just about any guitar for scale length. The feel of the neck used to take me a week or two to get used to when I switch guitars (i.e., my Gibson, Taylor, Takamine, Fender, Epiphone, Conti, acoustic, nylon, electric, etc.). I am now used to playing any these guitars. I don't care for V shape necks (Eric Clapton) and/or thick necks (Eric Johnson). I especially do not care to play on wide neck classical nylon acoustics. You just have to buy what feels best in your hand IMHO. :cool:

  13. Mark, it's definitely a Gibson ES-175 knock-off with an added Bigsby. It's nothing like a 335 knock-off as far as body style. The 335 is a semi hollow as far as body depth at 1.75" vs. the archtop hollow body ES-175 at 4"...The 175 is my favorite body style and I have the Epiphone version. +1 the white and gold color combo reminds me of the White Falcon...I like the US 57 humbuckers on my Epi and would prefer them on the Dean over the TV Jones or P90's like on the Scotty Moore 295 version. A lot of Rockabilly players like the Gretsch pups (i.e. Brian Setzer style). The 175 is one of the most famous designs and preferred by a lot of jazzers like Joe Pass. :cool:

     

    Ps. check out the newer Epi ES-295 Scotty Moore version that comes with P90's and a Bigsby, if you like single coils...

    I didn't mean to come off the way I might have; just bear in mind that I really, really dig Malcolm Young's tone and 'touch' and execution. A Master of what may seem simple, but simply masterfully done.

     

    Perhaps "hornets nest" was too harsh a term Caevan, so I hope you forgive me...I thought you knew I was only joking about moving that pickup for his jazz tone LOL! You came off just fine....and I gave you a "Like" on your post...

     

    I was more interested in getting rid of all those knobs he left on the guitar with just one lonely bridge pickup. I liked CEB's comment about leaving at least one volume knob. I knew where Kuru was coming from on going direct to the jack and not even using a volume knob...I think Danny caught my joke and I liked his comments. It made me go looking for a jazz version of Highway to Hell! There were quite a few jazzy versions of AC/DC music on YT, to include the vid Danny found. I like Dirty Deeds the more I hear it on the radio these days. It's all in fun... :thu:

  15. Sorry we get a little OT sometimes Johnchop but we always try to segue back LOL! That's a cool looking double HH Tele. I like the string through Strat style flat saddles without the ashtray and 3 barrels. I also like the top wood with the matching headstock. The "set neck". is a cool new concept for Teles. There were not enough pictures and I would like to see more. I would want to check out the body carve to see if it's contoured. Very nice choice and price if you decide to go in that direction. Also noticed the double string trees...anyway, keep us posted when you pull the trigger on the Tele or on one of the others! :thu:
