  1. I beg to differ. The Enterprise would have most logically had a Hammond X-66 in the day room for Spock's off duty time.
  2. I'm in the market for a pair or two of strictly gig pants. Something that's nondescript (no cargo pockets), drapes well, reasonably cool, and doesn't fade when washed. Preferably black and maybe khaki. Budget about $30-60. I have some Dickies 874's that are a nice durable fabric, fit well, but the black fades when washed. I'd be wearing the pants to load in with a t shirt and change into a collared shirt before the gig. Weekend warrior bars, community festivals, and maybe light corporate gigs. Any road proven suggestions are welcome.
  3. Any chance of Kawai's wonderful action appearing in a 73 key version for us multi keyboard gigsters?
  4. No single item above 30#. The only exception in the Leslie 145 for occasional worthy gigs.
  5. Adan lays it out. I did a gig like this on the hottest day in July in Pasadena. No soundcheck. I skated on stage with my Electro and DI boxes and plugged into the stage box. Apparently the FOH was good. An on camera video mic sounded all right. I had zero fold back at my stage position. I had to look at my fingers to know what I was playing. Never Again! I take my K10 now as insurance.
  6. I'll see your Lachy Doley and raise you a Cory Henry. Cory Henry and the Funk Apostles
  7. I'm interested in this board likely vs a CP73. I like the looks of the form factor and access to controls without menus. Two quick questions for those gigging with it.. how are you protecting it in transport? (The thickness of the case looks like it might be a factor) is it possible to purchase with only the AP and EP modules?
  8. LG sucks. Whenever my oven was put into the cleaning mode, it would melt the "metallic like object" stove knobs. If my 1986 Maytag (pre Whirlpool) washer dryer pair ever dies, I'm going with Speed Queen. I hate buying appliances. NOW... to swerve this thread back on track.... I keep looking for a "deal" on a Yamaha CP73 but alas, so far none are forthcoming. There's clean used one on the Sweetwater customer classifieds but he asking $1775. I'm thinking that's not enough of a price delta to justify taking a chance on a warranty problem. If I pay retail from SW, I know they'll make it good.
  9. These old amphenol MC4M-385 used to be very common. Apparently now they are pretty rare. My old band in the 60's used 664's and can testify that they are an effective defensive weapon in 3am load outs in an alley behind a club. This seems to be what you're looking for but I have no idea of the quality. I imagine it would either work or not as soon as you try it. https://www.ebay.com/itm/305199213201?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&mkscid=101&itemid=305199213201&targetid=1531876743358&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9026054&poi=&campaignid=20385089669&mkgroupid=151067932066&rlsatarget=pla-1531876743358&abcId=9316496&merchantid=114836957&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI17zK5Pq-ggMVvjHUAR2s3gREEAQYBSABEgI99_D_BwE Failing purchasing the above and going with making your own 91MC4M to XLR3, look around your local area for a company that has been in business for a long time installing PA systems in auditoriums and public facilities like courtrooms. Go in person with your mic in hand and try to talk to an old tech and see if they have some MCM's somewhere in a dusty box or maybe an old cable you can salvage. If you're hooked up as muso with an established church, paw thru storage closets and backrooms and see if you can turn something up useful. Here's some more pricey Ebay options: https://www.ebay.com/itm/266268053270?chn=ps&mkevt=1&mkcid=28&srsltid=AfmBOooQfyLMiIrb_sEkdfjpi58BVtNBx4EhSQ1APa7G-RThH4QCgvwDfGY https://www.ebay.com/p/1301541840 https://www.ebay.com/itm/305247247673?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&mkscid=101&itemid=305247247673&targetid=1529493971742&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9026054&poi=&campaignid=20385089669&mkgroupid=151067932066&rlsatarget=pla-1529493971742&abcId=9316496&merchantid=114836957&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI17zK5Pq-ggMVvjHUAR2s3gREEAQYBiABEgJFm_D_BwE I would very carefully remove the spline screw on the 664 windscreen and shake out all the deteriorated foam. I did this on my 666 and refoamed it with EV foam from a more modern mic. There used to be a bespoke wrench to remove the screw but they are long gone. I think I carefully used a pair of needlenoses with an appropriate width to grab the screw head. Good luck!!
  10. I'm not very schooled so maybe I'm using the term "shell voicing" incorrectly. I guessed that if a chord had two extensions (A6/9) that the shell could consist of three notes. IDK?
  11. The new band is working out pretty well. Mostly well chosen covers but the guitar player has a nice breezy original tune with jazzy chords. Unfortunately he's not enough theory conversant to write me out a good chord chart. With a little bit of prodding, he has communicated the first chord in the progress is an A6/9. He sent me this diagram of the guitar fingering. I'm playing on the organ but I tried on my Wurly at home (since the rest of my gear is at the rehearsal place) and it sounds a little clumsy with the A on the bottom. Next I dropped the A from the right hand and moved it an octave to the left hand and that opened it a little but then I tried it with B-C#-F#-A and it sounded a little better. So the question is should I just play it as shell voicing with the C#-F#-B, and hope the bass player establishes the root? Is there a better way to approach it?
  12. So to close this topic, I gave up on attached music stands and went with a K&M 11940 tripod stand. I used it at last rehearsal and I was impressed with the construction. I was hesitant about the price, but 20% off clinched it.
  13. @Bjosko Have you had a chance to compare Wurlies on the two boards?
  14. Thanks Adan. This is the crux of my decision making. I'll admit that I am a bit seduced by the old school form factor of the Seventeen. (former BITD owner of a Rock-Si-Chord 200) I use the Wurly a lot. I have a 200A at home so I know the sound. Any decent Rhodes Mk I or II will do for me. No need for Dynos or "smooth jazz" Rhodes. I'm not too picky about the action as long as it is more "pianistic" than my Electro 2. The new band does a fair amount of what I call Roadhouse country that requires a decent AP that will sit in the mix. I won't be doing any jazz trio gigs that require a demanding piano sound. kenheeter, you've got both. Care to weigh in?
  15. It's almost Halloween so I don't feel bad about "digging" up this topic. How do Crumar Seventeen purchasers feel now about the board and the manufacturer now that it's been in use for a year or more? I'm a potential Numa X 73 or Crumar Seventeen purchaser that is looking for a board to give me one or two "decent" AP sounds and very strong Rhodes and Wurlies.
  16. This is a common swap in tube guitar amps. 17. Thanks Randy but I am looking for a downloadable solution to the Numa X. I don't do Ipad or laptops. Apparently they are really handy but I'm not conversant with VST's. Is there a source for sounds that I could download to an internal memory and be done with?
  18. Scorsese is also very talented and can make a cohesive movie. Violence in his movies seems to be more grounded in reality and necessary to the story. But again, not a person with a life story that would suggest much experience with first hand violence.
  19. I'll admit I'm not a fan of Tarantino as a director. He's not without talent as a screenwriter. Pulp Fiction was about 1/3 of an interesting movie with some brilliant strokes. re: the Violence. He's obviously someone who has never experienced violence or trauma first hand. It's only a learned tool to shock or titillate his audience at a certain point. A film student or video store clerk's (remember those) take on violence. It's sort of like a plug in vs a Gates Stay Level. There was a time in the industry (long past), when directors came to Hollywood with a full backstory. Aviators, soldiers, rodeo riders, and European expatriates with a first hand experience of violence and irony.
  20. This is the K&M 11940 that I had my eye on. Was it something similar to this?
  21. Ugh! I just listened to the factory demo of the Wurly 200 on SL's website. It was so effected I couldn't tell much about it other than I hated it. I need a robust Muscle Shoals type Wurly sound. Spooner, not Supertramp. Has there been an update? Does it sound realistic with all the efx turned off? Is there a downloadable source for a better sound? I'm close to pulling the trigger on the X 73 but this is a dealbreaker.
