Thanks that helped a lot! The Jamey Aebersold books came in handy too as they have C, Bb, and Eb parts. We had a great time a jammed on holiday tunes, bossas and jazz and blues standards until late in the evening. My nephew is really passionate about music and we is really taking off on his instrument.

Greeting, My nephew will be visiting for thanksgiving and he says we wants to jam with me with his alto sax. He has a bunch of lead sheet but they're their written for alto sax. All my charts are in concert key. I think I'll just "cheat " and use my transpose button- please don't call the jazz police : ) Concert C is an is a Eb on the alto, correct? So when I'm playing off the alto charts, how do I transpose my keyboard? When we are playing from my concert key charts how do transpose my keyboard?

Those all seem like they would work well to lower the noise level here at home. Have you tried them with your keyboards or just for office communication?

Actually I don't think I have, Maybe once or twice in a store for a minuet. I never had a need for them until now. Why don't you like them? Comfort? Sound? Both?

Greetings, My wife, and I moved into a new open floor plan home and it's really nice but practicing on digital piano can be somewhat of a challenge when I am practicing my in my practice space, while my wife is cooking dinner, especially when she's using the blender to make her salsa or watching her telenovelas. . The kitchen is about 25 feet from my studio and I'm thinking a pair of a goodpair of head phones could cut out some the noise. I looking to spend up $300, but would consider more if they can do what I need them to do really well. Any suggestions? thanks!

I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to sound issues myself so I've probably made just as dumb request as this guy. Just be nice, explain how it normally done. It sounds like he just doesn't know better. Maybe if there's time, show him how it would sound with the mic vs direct. Let him go out and hear for himself. I am sure he'll make the right choice.

Thank you Reezkeys, the chord changes and melody seem good so I'll just transpose and make my own chord chart. . For better or worse I won't be able to use the BUTTON, because the wedding is taking place at the grandparents house and they would love to hear their baby grand in action, even by a hack like me who has to fake a part from a lead sheet! Thanks for saving my backside.

Yes, I am pretty sure this is the case and I understand and support the use of the mask in this instance even though we (the band) really don't need to wear one..... The park is getting crowed, long lines to get on rides. Even though it outdoors, it makes seems logical to keep a mask on. But my indoor church gig where literally nobody is wearing a mask expect me is concerning. Maybe they think Jesus will protect us from COVD?

My band is booked May-September at an outdoor amusement park, and we are required to wear facemasks even when singing. The sax player may slip his mask down when playing but has to put it on when not playing his horn. The stage is very large, about six feet above the open air dance floor. These rules seems a bit a bit over the top, but I understand, we have to be a good example to the guests, and I do believe mask wearing is an important element in slowing down COVID. On the other hand I am also playing at a church on Sunday mornings, and absolutely nobody is wearing a mask. This is indoors. I am the only one in the whole church with a mask. I am vaccinated, but it does concern me. The things I do to keep on working!

I actually ended up getting hired as a drummer (my main first instrument) . It is a Baptist church that features CCM at the services. I play to a click and tracks. It's a pretty elaborate/involved set up, with lights and video images that are synchronized with the music. I playing a fully mic kit, at rock band levels. So different in everyway to my Catholic upbringing, but no problem, it's gig, I'm happy to be working. Thanks for the tips, even though I got the drum spot. At least I knew some names of CCM artists, song titles, and I now have I pretty good idea of what the music is about stylistically.

So sorry about your loss John, such nice memories you shared. I could relate in that my parents also came of age in the pre rock era. I used to a bit envious of some my friends that had hippie parents, but now I"m grateful to have been raised by the ' greatest generation' along with full exposure to the Great American Song Book.

Thanks Mike for asking! Unfortunately I had to cancel my meeting/audition due to some nasty side effects due to the 2nd vaccine. I think I'm better now, and we rescheduled for next week. I am auditioning for 2 churches, One is CCM and the other is more modern gospel .

I attempted to learn guitar as a boy, then a teen, a young adult , and now middle aged , I always gave up. But I always come back. I have now stuck with it for the last 5 years or so. I just try to pick it up everyday, some days much more than other, some days hardly at all.... I have nylon stringed guitar, and focus on easy classical pieces, bossa nova and bolero comping, and trying pick out Real Book type melodies. It coming along all right..... Better than when I was when I was a boy. My first instrument is drums/ Latin perc/ marimba. I could spend a life time on any of those areas. I also play chromatic harmonica which comes kind of easy to me. Of course I'm no Stevie Wonder or Toots Thielemans but, I surprise people how well I can pick out melodies or read music on the chromatic harmonica. Oddly I just can't flow on a diatonic. It takes more technique to bend those notes. Since the year 2000 my focus has been on piano, mostly jazz, blues, various Latin styles, and Bach Inventions. I have a OMB act playing on an arranger keyboard and singing- variety act I guess you could call it. Great American Song Book Standards, Latin, old time rock n roll, classic county, 70's disco, and a few current hits too. Classic jack of all trades, master of none, but it is sure fun. Keeps me busy, and never bored.

Both my 17 year old daughter and I got our 2nd Moderna yesterday. We both feel fine, but I do feel some symptoms empty nest syndrome coming on as my baby girl is making big plans to leave home for college. I don't know if the vaccination has heightened my feeling of sadness, but I've had an urge to cry a few times today just thinking about her departure scheduled for August. I do feel a little bit better about sending her off fully vaccinated though.
