  1. I too played the FA-08 yesterday at Sam Ash. It's a slick, attractive board up close. Build quality seemed no different than other current workstations or stage pianos, i.e., PX-5S, CP4, etc., with plastic sides. Roland seems to have fixed whatever it was that caused the Ivory Feel G to feel broken on the FP-4F and RD-64; I found it more enjoyable to play. Roland has also upped their EP game considerably. I played several Rhodes and Wurlis that had improved detail and character. There was one called '66 Reed(?) that I especially liked. A quick scroll through the APs confirmed that I hate them. For all the bragging about the SN technology, APs are still a weak point for Roland, IMNSHO. I didn't spend time on any other sounds. I'm sure the Clavs and synths are fine, as they usually are with Roland. I wasn't interested in the organs (especially on a hammer action), so I can't comment on them. Hope this is helpful to those who are considering the 08.
  2. Presumably, you haven't been called because it hasn't gotten there.
  3. It's not really representative of their overall sound, but it does highlight the R&B element. Here are two songs from their previous album that are a better representation. [video:youtube]
  4. [cross post] My current favorite NYC band, Ava Luna. The singer's father is Jimmy Douglass. [video:youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Ze675GSpnWY

  6. To add to what Busch wrote, the microKORG is clearly the biggest hardware synth game changer in the last decade. If nothing else, it started a new, profitable trend for small, portable, low-cost VA synths and controllers. I wouldn't be surprised if it ultimately surpasses the DX7 as the biggest selling synth of all time, if it hasn't already.
  7. I love this band. Take Laura Palmer's Theme, play it at half speed, and that's Bohren.
  8. Korg's pianos are not driving their sales. But there's no reason to believe they won't continue to refine their piano sampling.

  10. Is it just me or is this a sad commentary on how documentaries are viewed?
  11. Why would Korg do this when Moog Music is alive and well? Makes no sense. I think Korg have struck gold with ARP; there's plenty more to mine.
  12. We've all read that article on ARP's history that's circulated over the years. I don't see why that would apply here; Korg is calling the shots.
  13. +1 Better then that this new Odyssey has the MS-20 Mini action.
  14. It looks like it will have the same action as the MS-20 Mini.
  15. Henceforth, ye shall be known as Sister Christian.
  16. :deadhorse: From the NAMM rumors thread:
  17. Action appears to be the same as VR-09/Juno/GAIA.
  18. Send the bill to dB. After all, he only has a thong to clean, and he probably hand washes it.
  19. To quote someone on another forum, the FA stands for F**k Aftertouch.
