  1. [

Greetings from Sweden to all of you!

It's nice to see this many people discovering the outstanding qualities of the HX3 sound engine.

    Best regards,

MAFY Hammond & Leslie Service, Sweden

    Hejsan Mafy!

Bought my HX3 from you. Really dig its authentic sound!

    Hälsningar från Götet :)

  2. My HX3 is on the way. Time to read the documentation:

    QUICK START GUIDE:

    c. Plug the power in on your keyboard and turn your keyboard/device ON.

    d. Plug the DC power supply (wall wart) that came with the HX3 into on outlet.

    e. Now power ON the HX3 by plugging the DC power supply into the back of the HX3.

    And the MANUAL:

"It is a good idea to power up HX3 before your MIDI

    master keyboard or master controller."

    Hmm..

I probably did everything in the "wrong sequence" according to this (which I was not even aware of) and it worked like it should :)

  3. Using the editor is key to getting EXACTLY what you want in the HX3.

I used NI B4 default just to get familiar with things.

Moved onto the Custom MIDI CCs and have exactly the sound I want.

    This is very tweakable axe.

Overdrive is good for moderate levels.

Leslie is really nice once you learn how to get away from factory settings. Crossover throb ramps. All change the sound.

I like a long devolving ramp like Dark Side Of the Moon has.

Hell if this thing with a Plexitube sounds really good today I will sell the Burn and Vent......

Just dig into the units parameters.

Sounds so much better than stock defaults.

But I am more into the 70s sounds than the smooth jazz or blues stuff.

I will delve into it for sure,,,,next week :)

  4. 2016 in Vegas will be nice to be home again with the rig from hell.

    Only one piece left.

    The Studio Electronics CODE 8.......

HELL YEAH !!!! Code 8 is on the wishlist for damn sure !!!

btw, my HX3 arrives in about 30 minutes :)

A quick test spin at the best...then back to programming the PC3 for a gig tomorrow.

Btw 2, are there CC numbers for the drawbars etc or do I have to use the editor?

If I can avoid the editor for this then I could bring the HX3 to the gig :thu:

The Burn has that Kansas, Jethro Tull, Yes, Argent Uriah Heep sound nailed. Usually Overdrive enhances the C3 Scanner sound or makes the upper horn unrealistic, not so with Burn since the Tube delivers the perfect amounts artifact free.

It also has a straight bluesy/jazzy sound, slightly narrower than the vent, but I can fix that with BX Digital Stereo Spread

since I route everything into an XITE-1 DSP rack.

But there's no replacement for Tube Distortion and the Jon Lord Steppenwolf sound is so on the money I got goose bumps till the buzz wore off after a few days.

I really like Melda Distortion/Overdrive/ Saturator plug ins, they are very precise with separate harmonic parameters, but they just can't come close to a decent Tube Distortion device.

It does the JCM800 so well I am thinking about getting another Radial with different Tube design for my Analog rackmounted SE1s.

They have a factory mod from Studio Electronics that is nice but needs more buzz.

The Radial JCM800 though is dead on balls accurate.

    U R Da Maaan!

Sounds awesome, eventhough I prefer the Vent regarding the actual sim.

Eager to try out the Vent with the HX3 when it arrives.

Btw, I have two SE-1's myself and indeed they could use a little grunge sometimes :)

Shoot me a PM about this factory mod you mention.

    Cheers!

Leslie sounds pretty good, overdrive is decent, C3V is just right for me, the reverbs are nice but I am really enjoying the HX-3 outs to an American Looper 2 in 3 out Analog Switcher pedal.

Stereo out goes to the GSi Burn, switching re routes the HX-3 stereo out into a mono sum > Radial Plexitube for that great JCM800 Jon Lord sound.

Using hardware FX only. Don't really get excited about the FX in HX-3 or even the GSi Burn for that matter.

But the HX-3 I have sounds great. SO many nice tweaks for Percussion and the recapped 72 3rd is exactly what I have wanted for years but couldn't get on a B2003 (Creamware/Ferrofish) or a VB3.

I can go from Earl Grant to Arthur Brown, to Deep Purple, Emerson just with a Prgm.Chng. message.

Add a little Tube Reverb on a Fireworx and I am extremely satisfied with my latest Hammond emulations.

Hats of to Diversi and KeyboardPartner for bringing us this kick ass piece of kit...!!

    That Plexitube seems awesome!

But why don't you have it before the Burn in the chain?

As I understand it "should" be before an amp?

    Or did I misunderstand?

  7. Plugged my HX3 into my MiniVent tonight. Holy crap what a gnarly sound!

Not sure what I have set up wrong, but I can't get a clean sound out of it. I backed off on the preamp gain trim and leslie amp level and it still shreds. I may be overloading the input of the MiniVent.

I'd like to be able to reproduce this sound when needed, because it cuts like an Emerson/HiWatt powered leslie. But I need to get clean too!

Did you manage to solve this "problem"?

Btw, just ordered a HX3 and want to use my Vent 2 with it :)

  8. @AC, thanks, but I already have a hard case for it, and the combo is fxcking heavy...

So that's why I thought of a "back pack" solution...for rehearsals primarily

@CEB, that idea already crossed my mind. Gotta let the girlfriend do the work then, I'm too clumsy when it comes to stuff like this

  9. Why does the organ always sound dirty? Same thing with the GSI Burn videos, the sound is always gritty , great for rock but questionable in a jazz setting or even a mellow setting.

Because I suspect that Marco has a strong preference for distorted sounds :2thu:

  10. yes, already sent a message (in the XH3 forum too).

it's really demoralizing that you have such a powerful machine and you cannot use it (the digital clipping is really invasive).

    example here (at:15):

    ciao!

    Marco

OK, and I notice that nobody has responded in the HX3 forum...

Hmm...Can it be that it´s something wrong with your unit?

Just guessing here since nobody seems to have reported this problem other than you? Or nobody except you noticed it yet?!?

Btw, if you bypass its sim and hook the HX3 to a Leslie or other sim, do you still have that problem?

  11. Unfortunately, although the above mentioned features make the HX3 sounding great, there are a couple of "bugs" to be fixed, but the sound is really terrific.

Some (three or four notes only) keys on the upper two octaves produce (with the AMP/DRIVE knob turned at levels just starting from 1/4) a digital clipping noise (you can hear a couple of that in my mp3).

I determined that it is NOT a problem with my amp, or with my pc soundboard, or with my headphones, but it is a sort of digital clipping IF something digital is involved - generated by the HX3 itself.

Maybe the problem should depend on the fact that HX3 has NO internal volume knob?

Maybe it should be sufficient to attenuate the internal audio signal with a new system upgrade?

    Hopefully yes.

    Stay tuned.

    Ciao

    Marco

Did you discuss these issues with the developer?

Sounds really good in any way!

  12. I have a keyb expander , it's got drawbars , an 11 pin leslie

outlet and it has its own leslie sim which is second to only

the vent , I'd say it's pretty close to the vent except for the

    overdrive

I would say that the KeyB sim and Vent is pretty different.

First off, the KeyB sim simulates how a Leslie sounds in a room while the Vent simulates a miked Leslie. You have WAY more Amplitude Modulation on the Vent. The lack of AM on the KeyB sim really bothers me on fast/tremolo. Gets washy.

The new KeyB Legend has also a miked up Leslie simulation as well. This works much better for rock sounds.

If I play rock stuff I have to use VB3 for now...

HX3 paired with a Vent I´m sure is a killer combo.
