  1. Other than the 2 gig of user memory and 256 vs. 128 voices, what is significantly different about this keyboard than a PC3A8?

The 2GB ROM in the PC4. vs 64MB base ROM, 64MB KORE 64 and 128MB for the Piano Exp in the PC3A8, total of 256 MB ROM

  2. Why do you almost never see Kurzweils live?

Maybe because you're not at a Broadway show looking into the pit?

You used to see/hear them more 10-20 years ago.

    And why is that?

Because that now ancient ROM was cutting edge at the time.... 20 years ago...

  3. 256 voices...very nice!

But....still the same base ROM as the PC3 + Kore 64 and the AP, EP etc from Forte SE? Aka the whole ROM from Forte SE?

    Same LFO´s and envelopes? rolleyes

When Kurzweil decides to make a NEW base ROM, with seriously updated sounds instead of re-using ancient sounds (not talking about the Forte Pianos and K-2000 compability of course), that´s when I will buy a new Kurz...

No, when they in addition update the envelopes, LFO´s and (still) aliasing VA-1 synth engine...

Seriously, for how long can they milk these outdated things???

I always had a love/hate relationship with my Kurzweils....

On one hand, no other synth has the flexibility to alter and shape sounds the way Kurzweil can....no other synth has these brilliant midi/master functions....

But then comes the ROM....all the others were always lightyears ahead when it comes to variety of sounds...

Imagine a Kurz with a ROM like Korg or Yamaha added in addition to their legacy ROM...

I have been waiting for this like 20 years....

I even went so far because I like Kurz capabilities so much that I thought of sampling the ROM of my different, Roland, Yamaha and Korg synths...but that´s a MAJOR PITA

Why do you almost never see Kurzweils live?

Why do you almost always see Motifs, Kronos live (apart from the NORD users)

    Take a guess

    When will Kurzweil wake up???

  4. [video:youtube]

VERY tasty and musical minimoog solo from the man Kenny Kirkland on this tune with Michal Urbaniak from the brilliant album "Ectasy" from 78....and the vocals....oh my god....beyond funky....check out "Just a funky feeling" from the same album...game over...

Another GREAT album with Urbaniak featuring Kirkland is "Urbaniak" from 77.

He really had his own style mixing polish/gypsy music with funk/soul/fusion

  5. Hmmm......is there any "clone" of the AO28?

Since it has such impact of the sound...wouldn't it be cool with some

    "modern" version for live gigging?

Seems this one is hard to "model" digitally....

  6. The "Hammond" sounds like shit...

This their attempt to compete with NE5, SK1?

So this is more expensive than the Nord (which is ALREADY expensive) and sounds worse?

Oh, forgot, you get motorized faders and long samples...

    No thanks!

  7. Aaah, got reminded of something that I wanted to ask you B3-experts for a while...

I never played a B3 except for a very short moment on a soundcheck many years ago...

When I play the VB3, I hear what I can describe as a short "release" after each note played. It´s very pleasant to my ears and playing. Is this something that happens in real Hammonds? Can´t hear this in other clones like Nord, HX3 etc.

    Did VB3 get this right?

  8. Also CV is panning out MUCH better in this 4.22 edition I have.

Summing to mono is making a big difference for me for basic CV.Not sure how to easily get to fast leslie speed from there, but one thing at a time.

Some important parameters on the CV editing are - Scanner Gear setting, CV modulation and definitely Line Box Level. So I am getting pretty close. I may post setting when I have the unit in front of me.

Good to hear that you are getting closer with the C/V...and that you gave the HX3 another shot

  9. OK 4.25

Grunge and Balls.... I get it

    Can it do jazz?

In actuality I guess this what you guys have been talking about. And no something like a Numa was not initially geared toward this though I could get grunge if I used speakers that were not shrill.

Is the person who posted this on Youtube on this forum?

KRK (three posts up) posted this clip on youtube :)

Waiting until it´s no longer Beta before updating my unit...

    But this sounds promising :)

  10. Updated to 3.92 the other day.

When I downloaded the 3.922 file, I noticed that it's way smaller only 32k compared to the 3.92 which is 1.5mb?!?

    Can't even open it.

Obviously I'm doing something wrong here.

Also, tried to create a custom midi cc map to use with my NE3 with the remote editor. Mapped the parameters, sent it to the HX3, and nothing.

The only parameter it's receiving from the Nord is CC 7, which it did

    before as well.

  11. Do you mind my asking if there are particular variables (strike, press, glide, slide, lift) where you sense the need for more customization of response?

    Ask away!

"Lift" (release velocity) is usually not a concern, because not many sounds are programmed to take advantage of it.

I think I'd like to see gentler slopes for "Strike" (velocity), "Press" (aftertouch), and "Glide" (pitchbend). I've had a hard time getting the response in a sweet spot. I find it really hard to find a middle ground between "nothing" and "full on". I imagine I could mitigate this with some patch tweaking though.

"Slide" works quite well out of the box and feels natural.

I just love how Pianoteq handles curve setting. I wish the Rise implemented something akin to this.

    -John

Hmmm...a bit dissapointing to read this as I seriously was considering one..

Did you contact Roli about these issues?

  12. As a multi-instrumentalist/non-serious pianist I'm mulling over Artiphon vs. Expressive E Touche as the next controller to buy.

I could use the Artiphon for guitarist or violinist oriented polyphonic note entry. It responds to finger vibrato and slides.

OTOH, the Touche, while being more of an add-on controller to use with conventional keyboard, has CV connectivity (in addition to USB and MIDI DIN) and appears to be incredibly sensitive in its own right.

Really cool thing, but 500 bucks??? Ouch!!!

  13. It is not possible to use a Midi Solution midi event processor to obtain the sustain/hold function. Made a request to the manufacturer about it.

Yeah, I´m pretty sure I asked Midi Solutions about this a long time ago too...

Thought maybe they had come out with something new when I saw

    Dave Osoff´s post...
