  1. The sad fact is, and always has been, that these easiest folks to exploit are those who love what they do.
  2. Half moon for me on both the vintage C3 and the XK5. The 5 however, gives you three options, half moon, button on console, and side mounted switch on foot pedal. it's nice to have the choice. On the C, I positioned the switch under the first octave of the white keys so I could flip the switch with the heel of my hand while playing left hand bass.
  3. The switch will work but you will have to figure out how to attach it .
  4. Jimmy Smith and any two people he wanted to work with.
  5. Check the XK5 users fb page. Lots of discussion on this issue.

  7. Would have bought a Hammond first thing instead of fooling around with combo organs and trading up. Lost money that way. Would have kept up with lessons and learned some theory formally. All things considered though, if I had it to do over... I sure would.
  8. Around here you won't find much love for them although I really like mine. Might go check the XK5 users group on Facebook for more detailed discussions
  9. I do and uploaded 3.2 with no difficulty. No major improvements on the order of 3.0 which added 3 new organ voices. I'm still waiting for them to fix the bug on the digital delay reverbs.
  10. I have a C3 and an XK5 and they are very close in sound but then again, the XK3 wasn't far off. The real similarity is in feel. The XK5 keybed really does need to be experienced.

  12. Over the years I've had four Wurlis. Loved playing them. Hated trying to keep them in tune. Sold or traded every single one. Would have loved to get a Rhodes just for variety, rubbery, stiff action and all.
  13. I have one and like it. I like the sound and the feel of the keybed. That said, there are still some software glitches and updates have been released to begin to deal with them. Still, and even if I think this is the closest thing to my 59 C3, your mileage may vary. There ought to be some places where you are that have them in stock. Given the money involved...try before you buy seems a prudent course.
  14. The tune has had a long life. It appears in Ralph Vaughn Williams's "Fantasia on Greensleeves" within the classical realm. and is the folk song "Lovely Joan" of which there are numerous versions and recordings. It would have been nice to have heard Greg Lake sing it in that form..."Lucky Man" style.
  15. You beat me to it I found this update over on the XK5 users facebook page courtesy of Daisuke Kawai and used it yesterday. Everything works fine and I was going to give it a couple of days and then post over here. Thanks for saving me the work.
  16. While Ursula's charms may have been other than dramatic most of the time, she did do a credible acting job in "The Blue Max" with George Peppard and James Mason.
  17. So if I were to somehow reconstitute part of my 1970's funk rig, a Clavinet C, "blackfaced" Fender Deluxe Reverb amp and Vox wah wah, the Clav would be vintage and the rest maybe vintage or just plain old? Interesting. I sort of like the distinction.
  18. That does raise an interesting point. When exactly does gear become "vintage" as opposed to just old?
  19. Absolutely stunning. The best of both worlds, a proven control surface and lightweight sound generation all wrapped in fine furniture grade woodwork. If you every decide to do this sort of building on commission..sign me up. This is what the Hammond future should looks like and it's still less expensive than the B3p by a long shot.
  20. Aww..we're all just a little envious and have to bust your chops about something. As for moving your new friend, looks like an old fashioned handtruck would work just fine. Handy item to have around in any event.
  21. Luckily, the leslie 21 system I use now has a robust finish and it vibrates just enough at fast speed to walk the drinks of the ill mannered to the edge and beyond. I'd like to think someone designed this as a self cleaning feature.
  22. I was fortunate enough to see the Doors on Halloween night 1968 at Freedom Hall in Louisville Ky. By using Western Union (really, honestly!) and wiring in the ticket money as soon as we heard the concert announced on radio, we scored 2nd row center seats. A great show. Looking back, it was the time period when the Doors were as good live as they ever got. I even got backstage and got Ray's autograph. I still have it. The only rock star souvenir I ever cared enough to get. I moved on, bought a Hammond and got more into blues and funk but have always had a soft spot for the Doors. If nothing else, the band uniquely explored the the darker side of the 60's and if they haven't worn well...so it goes.
