  1. Just before the pandemic took control of our lives, I went for a little photography excursion back at the beginning of March. This is the Overholt Distillery in Broad Ford, Pennsylvania, about an hour away from my house. It's a popular (relatively speaking) spot for photographers who shoot abandoned structures. I had been meaning to go for years and never really got around to it for no particular reason. Last year, an old warehouse on the property caught fire, but luckily most of the structures remained in tact. For this visit, I brought my trusted Hasselblad 500C/M with 80 mm lens along with my Hasselblad SWC. I started shooting with the SWC first, loaded up with a roll of TMAX 400. After one pass through the structure, I went around with the 500C/M, this time loaded up with an expired roll of Ilford Delta 100. 2. Resurrecting this thread since the Canon R5 and R6 have come out! The big news dominating headlines right now are overheating issues in the video modes. Definitely curious as to how this issue made it all the way into production. Canon is apparently working on some sort of fix but what that is remains to be seen. My armchair engineering analysis is that there is some heat sinking issue where the connection between hot components and the body, from what I've seen many reviewers say that the body itself isn't doesn't feel incredibly warm yet they get an overheat warning. Guess we will have to wait and see what happens! DPReview released a R5 review that I found to be very even-handed: All of that said, I barely shoot any video. And from what I've seen so far from others in photography forums who have just received them, this is an incredible stills camera and in indeed a 5D mirrorless replacement. I am most likely going to get one of these once some bundle deals or price drops appear (this will also hopefully give some time for issues to be resolved). The autofocus looks incredible. Coming from a 6D, which probably has the worst AF system of any Canon DSLR, pretty sure this camera is going to blow my mind. I'm looking forward to see how others get along with it in the months ahead.
  3. When I was in college, my band's singer knew of a Hammond organ in a local rec center that was going to be disposed of, an A-102 (ahh, french provincial). He claimed it for our band and we moved it into our practice space above the garage of the guitarist's parents. I forget much of the logistics (wasn't there when it was picked up from the rec center, for example) but helped move it up the narrow staircase to the practice space. We had at least four guys to get it up there. I vaguely recall strapping it to a refrigerator dolly laid on its back and sliding it up the stairs. Just a little bit sketchy. Also had to turn it vertically on its end to get it through the doorway at the top of the stairs, which was perpendicular to the run of the stairwell. Pretty sure the TWG was not strapped down, but everything worked fine when powered up. Years later, we brought it back down to bring to my parent's basement. By this time, the second floor garage practice space had a new exterior staircase that was wider and easier to maneuver on. 4 guys again for this move, but this time we each worked a corner and slowly brought it down. Also had to put it on its end again to navigate a landing, but this time the TWG was locked down. We loaded it into the bed of my Ford Ranger (6' long bed), then I strapped it down and made the short trip to my parent's (which requires going up and down a lot of hills since this is southwestern PA). 4 guys again to unload, then put it on a dolly to wheel it up the backyard to the basement door. Your friend's pickup would probably be fine for hauling, but consider the height the tailgate is above ground. If he's got a lifted truck, a U haul may be a better option, they are typically lower to he ground and may have a ramp (inclined planes are your friend when moving heavy objects!)
  4. Just remembered this blog post from back when this all first started, you could probably apply this advice to keyboards: https://www.lensrentals.com/blog/2020/03/how-to-disinfect-camera-equipment-and-spaces/
  5. I found this interview with an epidemiologist to be enlightening. Relevant quote from the interview:
  6. Watching this video from the same performance ( ), it appears to be a Nord Electro 2 73 painted black (note position of the red button)
  7. This thing is sounding great, and when Paolo is dialing in those 2 oscillator sounds Great job Mark! [video:youtube]
  8. FC-7 has a 50k ohm log pot. EV-5 and M-Audio use a 10K linear pot. Some boards don't like that mismatched resistance. I know Nords let you select expression pedal type to compensate for different resistances or polarities, but not sure about other brands. I'm guessing Roland and Yamaha don't offer that functionality in their boards since they want you to buy their respective pedals.
  9. This video just came across my youtube feed - nice musical demo from Matt Johnson of Jamiroquai. That blue paint job is pretty slick too. [video:youtube]
  10. Awesome Joe! Here's some inspiration for you: [video:youtube]
  11. Right on Eric! Nice mod wheel/pitch stick technique. The Stage is sounding good
  12. Very cool! I see a a t-shirt in my future. Now when are we getting "Joe broke it" merchandise?
  13. This is a pretty kick-a## performance! [video:youtube]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zcb1HpH42N8
  14. Set aside two hours of time to watch this fantastic documentary about the history of ARP. It's done by Alex Ball, who has created similarly excellent videos on and . One thing that really struck me is that all these guys who worked in that groundbreaking time of synthesizer development seem to be genuinely good people [video:youtube]
  15. Screenshots or it didn't happen!! Getting a little bit of FOMO here, might have to join for the next one!
  16. Let me be the first to say: Nord Lead
  17. Exactly what I did - sold my 5D 73 and bought a Stage 3 compact. No regrets - it's been working out perfectly, and enabled me to move to a single-board rig.
  18. I recall having an issue like this with my QS6.1. My memory of it is vague because I probably haven't played that synth in years (in storage now) but I had programmed a synth brass-type patch with a full octave bend. When initially programmed it worked fine, but at some point it started bending up a 7th instead of the full octave. I think I was assuming at the time that it might have actually been a hardware issue (pitch wheel potentiometer going bad?)
  19. Hope they accept your offer, Sam! I too am a fellow millennial hoping to gain home owner status this year. The prospect of having a music room is exciting!
  20. Gonna have to disagree here. He's basically doing D&B style-drumming that was pioneered by JoJo Mayer (more or less playing a fast, difficult programmed drum beat with actual sticks). Very appropriate for this type of music IMO. [video:youtube] I like this performance better than the NAMM one, on an actual drum kit this time. [video:youtube]
