  1. How did you spec it out? I like this new 16", but I hardly ever use my 2015 MBP. Between my cMP and iPad, there's just not a lot left to do for the laptop, other than the occasional flyaway gig. With the prohibitive pricing of the next Mac Pro, the 16" MBP may be a good replacement for my cMP, but I'd be worried about battery degradation as it would be plugged in most of the time. However, the 16" is more powerful than both the iMac and Mac Mini, so only an iMac Pro or next Mac Pro will give you that kind of performance on the desktop.
  2. Return of the Escape key, and -most importantly- they reverted back to the old arrow-key setup.
  3. I used to play "Deeper Than You Think" with my band back when I used to live in Kenya. That song always went over very well, became a crowd favorite. And it was always an opportunity for the guitarist to unleash his inner Benson.
  4. Hey Greg, are the keys on the MODX8 similar to the older MOXF8? I can't find a place to try the MODX8. I am thinking about moving from my MODX6 to the MODX8. I know the description says they're both the GHS... just wondering if there's any difference in feel in the newer (MODX8) board. AFAICT, when the boards are powered off they feel the same. But the velocity response of the new piano and rhodes samples on the MODX is better.
  5. Yes, never thought I"d say this but I"m looking forward to making tracks on the Fantom rather than in Cubase. I"ve concluded that my grooviest tracks were all started outside of the DAW. Something about Cubase just ain"t swinging.
  6. As far as keys go, I"m oddly wish-less this time around. There"s a new Fantom, there"s a CP88, and there"s an SKX. Those three boards pretty much cover everything I want. It feels weird not longing for something that doesn"t exist.
  7. And... ....another 1-2 for Mercedes. Surprise. Glad Bottas got the win, although the excitement felt a little artificial, what with the different tires. Still, he made it happen with his pole lap (track record) and he didn't put a foot wrong on race day. Great comeback from Albon as well. Hamilton is a six-time World Champion. Unbelievable.
  8. The D-20 was my first keyboard. It sucks for pianos and ep's, but it is surprisingly effective as a synthesizer. Some analog warmth there, with a bit of tweaking/programming it can sound pretty strong. It really got me started as a songwriter/producer, being able to sequence was amazingly liberating. One day a fellow keyboardist/producer borrowed it for a gig, and I never got it back. Oh well...
  9. Vriend, I'm Dutch like you but that doesn't make me a Verstappen fanboi. I think everybody here recognizes his exceptional natural talent, but when he self-destructs like he did yesterday (and to some extent, on Saturday with his big mouth), you should expect people to take him to task. It's okay, he messed up, big time. It happens. I do agree that he did a pretty good recovery race after that. Lol, right? Well, to be fair, they have improved massively since the summer break. I don't think they got it all that wrong, it's just Mercedes took a pretty big risk by stopping HAM early (and only once) and the gamble paid off.
  10. It was amusing to watch Max make a total mess of it all yesterday. When he is on point he is nearly unstoppable, but when he"s not it all turns into slapstick comedy. He needs to go practice yoga or something. Hamilton is on win #84 and bagging title #6 is only a formality (does anybody really believe Bottas is still in contention?). At this rate, he"s on course to match or break old Shuey"s records next year.
  11. I spent some more time with it today, and walked away feeling it"s a bit of an unfinished product. I look forward to what software updates will bring. This time I got to play the 6, and felt the action was a bit shorter than what I"m used on my X7.
  12. I"m glad Bottas took a victory today, and he got the vote for DOTD, so good for him. This weekend confirmed my suspicions that the 'super talents' are only human and entirely beatable when things don"t go their way. Albon was just as quick as Verstappen qualifying, and Leclerc had no answer to Vettel"s devastatingly quick pole lap. Too bad both Ferraris had poor starts, but it did look like Mercedes was quicker on race pace, so I doubt they"d have been able to secure victory even if the starts had been perfect. Bottas beat Hamilton, Vettel beat Leclerc, and Albon beat Verstappen. This was an interesting day. Oh, and can somebody give Sainz a quicker car? That dude is impressively consistent.
  13. Very well done, but I still prefer the original. This generation of über-skilled musicians is definitely taking things to the next level, but sometimes I feel the skills gets in the way of the music, or something. I guess that's just me getting old, then.
  14. I can"t stop listening to this album: Unlikely to be of much interest to the majority here, but if you dig Hiphop, I"d have to say Mustard is my fav beatsmith since, well, Just Blaze or something?
  15. No, posted this after the finish. Leclerc is the future, but he needs to quit the 'not fair' whining. Vettel got the better of him fair and square today, and the way Ferrari screwed him with the pitstops was appalling.
  16. The Pointer Sisters song. Wikipedia lists John Barnes, Greg Phillinganes and William D. Smith on keyboards, with Michael Boddicker credited for synths (usually programming, I think). Anybody know who plays the solo?
  17. 3 in a row for Ferrari, wow, who'd have thunk it? I understand Leclerc's disappointment, but I'm a little surprised at the sour grapes there. Didn't expect that from him. A long overdue victory for Vettel. He earned it. And man, could Mercedes have gotten it more wrong?
  18. I"m somewhat surprised that the Fantom is getting all this attention, while the Jupiter X gets almost none. If it had 8 parts, it could suffice for me, even with only 61 keys.
  19. Not as good in what sense? Did they do a rush job porting them? Is all the old stuff from the 1080/2080/5080 days in there? That's disappointing. On their site they say: Effects Multi-Effects: 16 systems, 90 types Part EQ: 16 systems Drum Part COMP: 6 systems Insertion Effect: 2 System, 90 Type Chorus: 8 types Reverb: 6 types Master Compressor Master EQ Mic Input Reverb: 6 types Not sure what they mean by 'systems' , it's a little confusing. However, being stingy with FX is a time-honored Roland tradition. In its day, the Fantom X lagged behind the Motifs and Tritons as well. That sounds like they were rushing to get this thing on the market. Hope they'll spend the time to get it right with the first point update. And that's the most important thing. Can't wait to get mine.
  20. Sounds like firmware update v2.0 will be amazing. It was the same with the Fantom X. They added the audio recording and some other things with a software update. edit: Wait, I might be wrong. My X7 has a sticker that says audio track expansion, and now I think I remember there being a hardware expansion board for it as well. It was 14 years ago and my memory is clearly not what it used to be. Anybody know for sure?
  21. I really dig both CP"s for ac.piano, but I wish the Rhodes had a little more flavor. It sounds great, but doesn"t make me boogie. Oddly, the Rhodes on the Krome may not be the most authentic, but it definitely gives me the vibe.
