  1. I've played my first gig with this speaker. It was only employed as my vocal p.a. because the venue is an upscale small bar with a Yamaha baby grand. This was mounted on a speaker pole off to my left slightly and behind me about 3 feet. It was replacing my QSC K-10 and a Soundcraft 4 channel mixpad with effects. After a minute of adjusting volume, bass -treble - reverb I had a sound that was clear with just enough low end and a small amount of reverb. The main thing I discovered is that I get a better vocal sound with the Tone Match settings off, running it Flat and adjusting bass and treble. I did not care for the dedicated Mic setting. Not enough body and not pleasing to my ears. I use a Shure Beta 57. The reverb is pretty basic and I just used a pinch. I may end up using the Soundcraft mixer with it more because the effects are better and varied and I have more tone controls easily accessible with the mixer next to me. But I wanted to see what it could do as a 1 piece small p.a. I liked it and will be trying it out with my Casio PX S-3000 at my regular Tuesday night restaurant gig. I expect it to work well. My Yamaha P-125 practice piano sounded fine when I tried it in my living room. And as a Bluetooth speaker to play music from my iPhone, it is wonderful. I'll be carrying this back and forth from house to job unless at some point I spring for a second one.
  2. I believe this is fairly new offering from Bose. Has anyone tried one out? I think it could fill a couple of needs for me. * I have no Bluetooth speaker in my home and would love to play my large library of tunes from my iPhone. * I sometimes could use a speaker in smaller venues where my QSC K-10 + Soundcraft Mixpad is overkill and my only other option is 20 year old Roland Cube. My experience with Bose is very pricey but delivers in the sound department, especially in those small to mid size environments. https://www.bose.com/en_us/products/speakers/portable_pa_speakers/s1_pro_system.html
  3. I've owned all 3 of those keyboards and when it comes to Wurlie I rank them: 1. PX5S. Very playable and easy to add effects and amp simulations right out of the box. 2. SP6. A very close 2nd. After tweaking it really becomes a toss up with the Casio. I just feel a better finger to sound connection with the Casio. 3. A distant 3rd. Barely passable but in a pinch, OK.
  4. BTW, do Yamaha have a specific case for the P125? I didn't see one at Sweetwater.... The P-125 will fit snugly into a Casio PX 5S case. If you can find a lightly used one, even better.
  5. Good reasoning and suggestions from AnotherScott. The speakers in my S-3000 are sufficient to play a smaller wedding ceremony or rehearsal with my piano/ acoustic guitar duo. I have a Tuesday night gig in a small, sometimes loud bar, that I can cover with the piano speakers on high and plugged into a Roland cube. I've never owned a piano with speakers that would work alone on any gig or rehearsal where there were drums. We all have our checklist of requirements.... different strokes... In your situation El Lobo, I'd sit near the PA and bring 2 cables. Power for the piano and 1/4" to the PA. And there's no way I'd remember to change out the batteries before every rehearsal. Haha.
  6. The man had serious chops and mojo to spare. He was a huge influence on so many musicians, not just piano players. The 2nd line for Macs' funeral is going to be epic. R.I.P. Good Dr.
  7. I'm sorry about the confusion. The action is indeed the same in the S-1000 and S-3000 It's very much improved from the PX5S which was considered pretty remarkable in a 26lb keyboard at the time of its release. But I wanted to stress the difference in Pianos that the S-3000 offers. I play an average of 18-20 gigs a month with more than half solo piano or piano/ guitar duos. So there's plenty of exposed, featured piano. I prefer the Stage Piano and Ambient Piano to the Default Grand and all it's iiterations found in both of the new Casios. You've been given some good suggestions here i.e. the Yamaha CP33 but if there's any way you can get to play and audition the Casio PX S-3000 you should. Good luck!
  8. "The PX S-3000 has a really fine action and the Stage Piano and Ambient Piano, neither of which are on the 1000, are very good and I don't hear the plunkiness that some complain " My point was missed. Among the extra sounds on the S-3000 that you "don't need" there are about 6 additional piano patches and the two I mentioned above are sonically different from the 5 you get on the S-1000. They are the reason that I didn't pass on purchasing the new Casio.
  9. I own both the Casio PX S-3000 and a Yamaha P-125. I've also played a PX S-1000 at a Guitar Center. I think the P-125 and the PX S-1000 could be considered a toss up. It's my opinion that the PXS-3000 is definitely superior to the Yamaha P-125 and gets you closer to the Yamaha CP 300. But of course it's 200.00 more. The PX S-3000 has a really fine action and the Stage Piano and Ambient Piano, neither of which are on the 1000, are very good and I don't hear the plunkiness that some complain of. At some point the weight difference of slepping 71lbs vs 24lbs might be a more important factor than it is now.
  10. Its exactly like the one on the PX5S I've gigged with for 6 years and never had a problem. To be assured of no problems, the cord from the wall wart is long enough to be wrapped around a leg on your keyboard stand and then plugged in, securing it.
  11. Can you still see the lighted panel on a PX S1000/3000 in the direct sunlight? Asking for.... me.

  13. I had a broken fast/ slow switch on my original Vent. The company wouldn't ship a part to enable me to find someone local to install it. The only solution was send it back for repair with a turnaround time of up to 3 weeks. Without the Vent the organ in my Nord Stage 2, 76 is painfully bad. As suggested earlier in this thread, I bought the remote. It arrived in 4 days, I started placing the Vent on the bare spot on top of the Stage where I could tweak overdrive. Mic distance, etc. This was 4 years ago and the remote switch works fine. Like Eric, I'm glad I purchased the remote. Happy to hear you were able to get it sorted out!
  14. I picked up this Gator stand and it's a good size for my Nord Stage 3 Compact or my Casio PX S3000. I can handle the 18 lbs because it sets up in 10 seconds and it folds completely flat and is easy to carry or fit on my cart. Thanks guys!
  15. Hi Bill, I've not paid attention to the synth section yet. I bought this mostly to be my main gigging board for all solo piano work. I'l get in there over the weekend and check them out. The video Jazz+ posted sounded good and with the 3000 you have the knobs to play with the filter etc. and the pitch bend is programmable. Sounds as if you're doing well and having some fun too. I'm keeping busy gigging 5 days a week with easily 1/2 my work coming from better paying solo gigs. When do you come back to NJ?
  16. I'm coming from years of working and programming Nord keyboards and unsurprisingly they are more intuitive for me. Going from a Nord which seems to have a button or knob for everything with little menu diving to the elegant form and highly menu driven Casio has been challenging. Having said that, I'm starting to get around on the PXS-3000 much better today. I was concerned with having no actual eq to tweak the sounds but having the knobs and setting to brilliance/ reverb is helping greatly. The S-3000 was a good choice just to get those programmable knobs. I'm still confused about one thing in particular. After going into registration mode and playing a set-up/ sound there how do you completely leave registrations and return to the status you are in when you power up? Simply hitting the Function gets you to Tone section but you still are retaining some of the settings from the registration. ie. reverb, knob settings etc.
  17. Well, it's great to be back after some password, login issues involving no password reset emails being received. Much thanks to Jim Quinn and the folks at Casio Digital Piano Group , Facebook. First thoughts after my initial gig with the Casio PX S-3000. *I love the elegant look and the ease of moving it around. The very small footprint will be a lifesaver in some venues. *The action is a definite improvement over the PX 5S which I liked but not as much as some folks. It's very expressive at ppp fff and in between. How they managed to put this in a 24lb piano boggles the mind. *The default Grand Piano Concert is very nice and sounds like a better version of the PX 5S default piano. There is a brighter version of that which should be great for blues or rock in a louder band situation. My favorite piano here is the Stage Piano and what sounds like a variation called Ambient Piano. They sound substantially different from any other piano sample found on this keyboard and the PX 5S. I like the sound untweaked but because Knob 1 is set to Filter you can dial the brightness up or down to taste. This Piano and the 2 programmable knobs are not on the Casio PX S-1000. This alone is reason for me to justify the extra $200 I've spent for the S-3000. I still have much to learn and internalize to be able to comfortably add any effect to any sound and use other features but my first impression after one gig is.... This will be a great replacement for my other rig: Casio PX 5S playing iGrand on my iPad and the internal EP's etc.
  18. The first example you gave us was beautiful. Roy Bittan's was a bit more simplified but very effective. Both of those versions were built around the chord sequence on a verse ( Am G Fmaj7 ). with the first example straying some. Honestly, If I were you, I'd love the freedom of keeping the vibe and feel but allowing some of ME to shine through. You could talk to the bandleader about taking that approach.
  19. The Gator 88 slim is a perfect fit for the SP-6
  20. +1 For going online and having the PDF manual. It really is very good for learning what isn't easily apparent to you. My background is more with Korg, Roland and Nord. I've always struggled with Yamaha design, UI's and manuels. This is my first experience with Kurzweil since the early 80's and I've found the learning curve friendly so far.
  21. Say hello first..... :-)
  22. A Korg Plug Key. I grew tired of running down the battery in my iPad while playing IGrand and Korg Module.
  23. I am pleasantly surprised by how much I like the action on the SP6. I've owned a Casio PX5s for years and while I agree with many how good that keyboard feels to play, so far I have really connected with the Kurzweil in a way I never quite did with the Casio. The fingers to sound connection feels great and I've settled on the "Piano Touch" setting for velocity. I've not gigged with it yet but 2 rehearsals and lots of time spent playing it lead me to believe that this is a keeper.
  24. Thanks guys. I'm getting good feedback on that Gator GKB 88 slim. I'm going with that.
