  1. I'm looking to replace my CX-3. It's about 12 years old and I'm looking for an upgrade. It sounds pretty good to me through my Motion Sound KBR-3D, but I'm a little confused about the Hammond portables. The XK5 looks really nice but at $3,500 new it's pretty steep. It may also have features that I don't really need since I am not a hard-core Hammond expert by any means. Looking for advice on this. Do the earlier models sound good? If I go with a used keyboard, I don't really want it to be more than 5 years old. p.s. I will not be using any onboard Leslie simulators
  2. thanks gentlemen with the ground lift plug, are you supposed to literally use that greenish grounding screw thing at the top (insert screw into electrical plate)?
  3. As I pursue possibly picking up an actual Leslie tone cabinet, I am planning to use my Motion Sound KBR-3D in my church gigs for another month or so. The main problem I have is that there is a pretty loud HUM that it makes when I turn the volume up past fairly low levels. The amp has a "pre gain" and "post gain" knob. When I turn them up to about "3" it's fairly quiet, but beyond that the hum gets annoying enough that our sound guy starts complaining. Without taking it into a repair shop, can you guys think of any work-arounds to minimize the hum? I think I may have had some kind of device that I used about 10 years ago that was kind of a hum eliminator that I plugged my CX-3 into and then that into the Motion Sound. Any ideas?
  4. I need a gear dolly for moving amps and keyboards with reasonably large wheels, maybe even air filled. I move stuff out of my basement level and have to roll over my lawn. My current dolly has little wheels with 5" diameter and about 1.5" wide. I don't haul a lot, but when I do, I would like something that was easier to roll across the lawn.
  5. I have started thinking about replacing my Ventilator that I use with Korg CX-3 at my church gigs with a real Leslie tone cabinet. In the process, I recently discovered the Leslie Studio 12. Anybody use one of these? Opinions? For years I used a Motion Sound KBR-3D but it got old and started misbehaving but it sounded decent (in spite of it not having a real rotating woofer). I really did like that it had XLR outs which I don't think any of the Leslie's have.
  6. I would pay $100 to have been able to see that solo where you could actually see his hands from above the keys. Damn that was good.
  7. Thank you, that is very helpful! I don't understand all of it, but will try to get it to work.
  8. I want to use my Kronos 88 keys to alternate between playing it's own programs and combis and playing sounds from my Yamaha MOXF. I'm sure it can be done but don't know the exact way to make it happen. First issue is whether I need a din-plug MIDI cable or if a USB cable will suffice. My eyes begin to gloss over concerning what settings I need to tweak on the Kronos to enable it to work. Do I have to go in and tell the Kronos that MIDI is routed to a specific channel? If I want to start a set with a Kronos Strings program and then switch over to playing a Yamaha piano patch, how does that work? If anybody can share step-by-step guidance on how this would work I would be VERY grateful.
  9. Regarding Crammit, I'm wondering if Canoehead or Greg can share the details of how you gain access to the songs and how all that works. I found that Crammit had a Facebook page which I tried to join a few nights ago but have not heard back from them. Please keep me posted. Not to sound too dense, but when playing along with Karaoke Version songs, do you need to download the songs and then make sure you are connected to their website while playing them back?
  10. Wait a minute, is Crammit the same as Jammit from 10 years ago??? I'm going to download it on my iPhone but don't know what songs are available, etc?
  11. I'm surprised how good lots of the songs on Karaoke Version sound. If I bought a song on there with multiple parts and I don't want to mess around with Logic, do I just save it on my laptop and play it from "their" website, muting parts as needed? I don't see a separate APP on their site that you can download and then control offline without internet access.
  12. I'm brining back this post from a few years ago. Anybody got recommendations? I'm just looking to have some fun with some classic rock stuff that I can mute certain parts, jam along with, etc. Don't mind paying, not looking for free. Most of what I have found online is fairly bad, especially the vocals.
  13. I have to admit I'm not a huge Lebron fan, but it really sucks how Dragich and Bam got hurt. This finals has ZERO buzz, there's no chance in hell Miami can keep up. AD is literally unstoppable and Lebron is very solid, Rondo getting it done too. It is what it is, but I was hoping for a more competitive finals.
  14. As it turns out, the main issue was I had the Hi/Lo button set on High. Also turned down the volume on the Kronos and turned up the amp volume, all is good! Thanks for all the help.
  15. OK, now I'm getting in over my head (what else is new?) so I have a few more questions. My setup is Kronos into Vent into a Roland KC-600 keyboard amp. Then there are XLR outs from the back of the amp into the PA snake. I use the keyboard amp as a monitor so I can hear what I'm playing. On the Kronos all of the non-organ programs are routed naturally into the Stereo Left and Right outputs of the Kronos, which are plugged into channels 1 and 2 of the keyboard amp. On the Kronos I have configured the organ programs (patches) to be routed into a separate output jack (channel 1 of four possible "other" outputs on the back of the Kronos). This output is what is plugged into the Vent and then the Vent is plugged into channel 3 of the Roland amp. When I am playing pianos or pads through the Kronos stereo left and right, the volume knob on the upper left of the Kronos controls the volume of those programs. As I recall, it does NOT affect the volume of channel 1 so I control the organ volume using an expression pedal. Maybe the signal coming out of channel 1 is too hot but I don't know how to adjust it.
  16. i just noticed that Eric said to check the "gain stage" coming out of the keyboard. What does that mean? How can I check the gain stage of the Kronos?
  17. That's a really interesting observation Grey, they really were a mash up of prog, rock, jazz and blues. At the time (50 years ago! when music was exploding in multiple new directions), I don't think I cared that they were all over the place. I just remember them being amazingly innovative with KILLER Hammond chops.
  18. I think the male vocalist in the 2019 video is way better than the vocalist in the 2018 video. Sounds almost exactly like the original. The female vocalist gives off more of a Janis Joplin vibe which does not fit the original music at all, IMHO.
  19. Oh man, this is crazy. I bought the album when released in 1970 with the pterodactyl's flying around and wore the damn thing out on my father's turntable. It was one of the early influences on trying to learn organ along the likes of Keith Emerson, Rick Wakeman, etc. Those keyboard players in this tribute band are bad a$$ for sure.
  20. Thanks for all the excellent suggestions! The help I get on this forum is amazing. Lots of you are pros. I'm a glorified hobbyist with a demanding day job and don't know how I could fumble my way through the nuance and technicality of this stuff without your help.
  21. I might have set the secondary function to guitar input by mistake. honestly the design sucks because the knobs are smooth dials and yet you have to place the knob at 5 o'clock (dialed far to the right?) for low input like an organ I don't think I fiddled with the far right POT which is LEVEL and I need to make sure that is not set too far to the right I will check these and hopefully get it dialed in correctly
  22. Well I just tried my new Venitlator II with my Kronos 2 at church service today. The Ventilator was plugged into a Roland 600 keyboard amp. The Kronos was being used with a few of the built in CX-23 programs with the rotary speaker disabled. Man did it sound like CRAP!! I mean I have always liked a little tube distortion coming out of a Leslie sim, but this was WAY too much. I reached over and dialed the know all the way back and it was still unacceptable. I don't know if I have a defective unit. Any thoughts, ideas on what's going on?
  23. you might be right about something like the XK-1c. By the way, new XK's are only about $1400. Why is the XK-5 Heritage so darn expensive? There's one on Sweetwater for $3,700???
  24. So I guess that's a NO. If I conceded that a midi cable (or USB cable?) is necessary to play the Kronos sounds from another 61 note controller, then maybe I should go that route. My gut feeling is that replacing the Kronos 88 with a Kronos 61 is not very smart because I think I would get killed on trying to sell the 88 used and replacing with a 61 which are $3,199 new. So, two questions now. Is it relatively easy to marry a Kronos 2 with a decent 61 note controller using Midi or USB? Any recommendations on 61 note controllers with semi-weighted keys? I'm not looking to go ultra cheap, just not ready to plunk $3200 down and then try to sell the Kronos 88 at a deep discount.
