  1. My wife plays it, she wasn't comfortable (shoulder) playing a standard acoustic guitar. It makes her happy, which makes me happy; and she has gotten quite good at it. Side note: over the past few years at NAMM the number of Ukulele companies (especially Hall E) just exploded. It is way more popular than we realize...
  2. You are my hero! I owned an A-80 (purchased new in 1991) and eventually gave it up in frustration because of the ridiculously unplayable aftertouch and the display whine. But I did like the feel of the keys and thought they worked well even for piano playing. Currently have a functional MIDIBoard, but I am looking at doing some major key bushing and overall felt replacement. Since they are pretty much actual piano keys, I may have to resort to having a piano technician do it.
  3. I own a MIDI controller with nearly an unlimited number of knobs, and it is fun setting up a preset then assigning the knobs: Electra One Right now I am using it to completely control Repro-5, Tal-J-8 and Memorymode. This thing truly is a "game changer"
  4. When I was in college (at a large Big Ten university) living in the dorm as a sophomore, during September move-in some would-be football player had a guitar and an amp set up in his dorm room and was blasting his "version" of Led Zeppelin's Heartbreaker. People were banging on his door to no avail. After about an hour of this, some guy walks up, politely knocks on the door, and football player opens the door to have a confrontation. Some guy politely asks, "I play a little too, may I see your guitar?" And football player hands it to him. He proceeds to absolutely rip the same song, including the famous solo break, finishes and hands the guitar back to the football player. We never heard another sound from his room the rest of the semester...
  5. I guess the Moog Voyager backlight design wasn"t the worst idea
  6. Speaking of Ravenscroft, it looks like they are building a new manufacturing facility just down the road from my house...!
  7. You. Only. Live. Once. And for the record, a 10/10 knockout with a questionable personality is not a 10/10; just ask Brad Pitt...
  8. I live in a highly desirable area, and the value of my home has skyrocketed. But in cases like this, if you sell where are you going to go? Unless you own more than one property, in which case a $1600 purchase might not necessarily be a hardship. And even if you bought a $1600 keyboard on impulse and subsequently had buyer"s remorse, don"t most of the major retailers have a 30-day return policy?
  9. Yes, you are overthinking it. Considering the Grumpy Old Men movies pre-dated Rick Wakeman's books by more than a decade or two⦠Or as Mel Brooks said, 'it"s 1874! You can sue herâ¦!'
  10. I downloaded the demo, and it turns out I had sold my Solaris to one of the Cherry Audio people about 5 years ago...! Anyway, thought it sounded great, was able to emulate some nice tones vis à vis my Minimoog Reissue. Immediately started working on them to implement my favorite feature, at least they seem open to it. Maybe I don't need a Moog One now? At least it wasn't a CS-80!
  11. Oops, how did I not see that?
  12. Well, awhile back you guys were pretty enthusiastic about their Polymoog plugin Polymode. Well here they go again, this time their take on the Memorymoog: Memorymode Pretty nice intro price, and on demo playing I like it so far but have had no prior experience with the real thing. I have been able to match some of my Minimoog Reissue tones pretty closely, at least enough for government work. Whatcha think?
  13. Multiband processing- fair enough! I absolutely love my Kemper Profiler, and recently picked up the Powered Kabinet to go with it, and am extremely happy with the tone/sound even at bedroom volumes. David Torn- he has been fairly outspoken on The Gear Page about real tube amps vs the KPA, but still uses a fair amount of rack gear mainly related to looping (of course).
  14. Well, it seems Henry had the beheading option back then? Divorced, beheaded, died; divorced, beheaded, survived... Speaking of which, it was pretty funny back in high school when the stoners in the back of history class suddenly became experts when we got to Tudor-era England!
  15. Count me as a member of the unimpressed; but of course, check out her drummer....!
  16. So the thing about a Rhodes is that it was originally a more portable (and amplified) alternative to a piano. Back in the 70s I had a 73 Stage for just that purpose, and I wasn"t fond of it. Extremely heavy and awkward to move, the Tolex tore if you looked at it funny, and I worked on the touch and sound like crazy to get it to not sound so much like a vibraphone. When the Yamaha CP-70 came out (out of my price range) I thought it was a great step forward and a lot of bands I liked used it, but when I hear it now I really prefer piano- lately I have been listening to the Phish Channel on SiriusXM, and you can hear Page McConnell using a CP-70 live in their early days, but now that he tours with an acoustic grand it just sounds so much better. So, I am happy to use Pianoteq, and even though I have emulations of the Rhodes, Whirly and CP-70, I don"t find myself yearning for the Rhodes experience. FWIW
  17. The Small Stone was the 'Just The Way You Are' pedal for Rhodes. I know I wore one out with that song during prom season late 70s
  18. Ypsilanti, MI Water Tower:
  19. Uh, that's row to hoe... There was a Mark VII about ten years ago, and I remember that the guy who was heading it up (name?) was a bit of a douche- causing problems on vintage Rhodes websites and threatening lawsuits over just saying "Rhodes." They had a MIDI'd version that had polyphonic aftertouch, of all things. It was kinda weird, and you know how I feel about PolyAT. They were demonstrating them at NAMM back then, and I actually came by and had to show them how to set up Logic ES2 so that they had a polyAT sound source.
  20. Cool,- never seen before. bookmarked ! sold out a.t.m., but I´ll go back later ... If you are interested, you should contact Martin directly at the website and let him know- they sell out quickly.
  21. I have the black/orange and love it- the xmas lights are very useful for learning the synth and finding things quickly, and you can turn them down to subtle if needed. I was on the waitlist for the Grey Meanie, but when mine came up I passed on it because I was so happy with the B/O.
