  1. Thanks for your hands-on input, DovJ! My interest would primarily be to use this as an 'amp and cab substitute'. with various favorite 'real-live' analog and digital pedals and units in front of and after it; the way I currently enjoy my Strymon Iridium. The "Morph" function would be HIGHLY, HIGHLY desirable to me in that context, though!
  2. Go ahead, pull the other one, pull my other leg, too.
  3. Lest we forget. A dream, a work in progress, that continues to be made real. Around the world, for all peoples.
  4. Awesome! Glad to hear it. SurfyBear seems to have a great rep, going by what I've read from very satisfied owners. Which pan is in yours? The 'regular' Accutronics pan, or the Surfy Pan version (made by Accutronics) that better emulates the vintage stand-alone Fender Reverb units? I think that the SurfyDrip Switch allows you to set your SurfyBear Reverb unit for the highest amount of reverb-mix that you'd want, and then set the SurfyDrip Switch for a lower amount to switch to with the tap of a foot.
  5. Just what overdrive and distortion pedals do you already have, Jenny? (Forgive my being forgetful.) I've enjoyed occasionally stacking/combining such pedals to get one, two, and three sounds from them. (And then there are fuzz and octave-fuzz pedals to throw into that, as well... ) I bet you can get a LOT of what the KoT has to offer with what you've already got underfoot. D' oh! I didn't, thanks for clearing that up for me. THAT, I DID know. But thanks.
  6. And you can get the 'clone' ('King of Clone'?) NOW, as opposed to a years long waiting list for "the real deal" KoT... 😳 Uhmn, apparently I'm missing something here, missed the memo, wasn't at the meeting... ? Please expound and explain... ?
  7. Here's to 'im; I have so loved his work...
  8. Yeah. Which brought back how hard George's passing struck me.
  9. Elizabeth and I saw that, we liked it very much!
  10. Happy New Year, everyone...
  11. Hats-off to a memorable, iconic figure in the backdrop of our lives. A talented, funny guy.
  12. Years ago, I spent a LOT of time playing flat-top acoustic, with heavy .014" - .059" strings. I paid attention to where, when and how I made such squeaks, and did my best to alleviate them just a little by subtly adjusting the pressure of my fingers pressing down against the strings as I moved from position to position. I also embraced some squeaking as being part of the sound of guitar- a sort of an occasional rhythmic accent. Sometimes I deliberately tried to make them. Ever listen to Bobby "Blue" Bland? The odd little snorty noises he'd sometimes make between phrases as he sang? As for sprays and powders other than cleaning with a clean dry 100% all-cotton cloth- always a hard no.
  13. That has some great features; a feature-set similar to that of my old Boss RT-20, and the Neo Ventilator II. While I could tell a LOT more if I had the opportunity to test-drive it in person and twiddle some knobs, judging just by this demo video, I think that I may actually prefer the sound of my venerable Boss RT-20! I'd have to try the different Cab Modes, the Distance, and Mix to find whether or not I could get it to sound a little more to my liking. I'd also have to compare it to the Neo Vent II, which is currently what I'm looking to as a potential upgrade from the RT-20. Hearing these in stereo operation would be very, very important to me. While many fantastic, classic recordings and live performances have been in mono, I really enjoy a stereo Leslie-sim effect when playing live. The perceived rotating motion greatly improves the realisticness of the sim. The Overdrive character of the Leslie Cream and the Neo Vent II would be another major deal making or breaking point; I already know that I don't like my RT-20's Overdrive... ! It would have been nice if the Overdrive- and the Distance, Mix, and various Cab Models had been explored in the deo-vid...
  14. I love Keef! And I've certainly borrowed from him here and there...
  15. Nice! You don't need to be. All you need to be is enjoying playing guitar, and playing what YOU want to in the way that YOU want it to be.
  16. When the opportunity turned up, I had to get that amp- largely because of that unusual low-voltage/high-amps design and the way it's very easy on tubes.
  17. On the matters of tube-amps, and the longevity, durability, reliability, and availability of tubes... I embraced the digital-modeler and IR concept wholeheartedly; bought a Strymon Iridium, and LOVE IT. It's fantastic for headphone-use and DI duties! I throw some favorite pedals in front of and after it, much as I would a real-live tube-amp and its effects-loop, if equipped with one. It's a fantastic alternative, as are similar units from the likes of Universal Audio and Boss. No worries of tube failures, unavailability with that... and I thoroughly enjoy its tone and feel. THAT said, I hedged my bet BOTH ways... I also scored a 65 Amps Producer EL head, an all-tube, 28 watt, 2xEL34 amp with a very unusual circuit design- it's no stretch to even call it unique. It runs all of its tubes on very low voltage and very high amperage- the opposite of conventional tube-amp circuits. This necessitated custom designed and custom hand-made transformers, something the majority of other amp-makers rather cheap-out on. This results in an estimated Output and Driver Tube life of 25 years or so... !! EVEN WITH CURRENT PRODUCTION TUBES, the quality of which is generally lamentable. This also makes current production tubes sound much better than they usually do, rivaling costly NOS tubes from the '50s, '60s and '70s. Between the Iridium and the Producer EL, I can have my cake and eat it, too.
  18. Hats-off. He certainly made his mark.
  19. Haahhaahh! Me, too. At least, I think. The closest I come is with a vintage-based germanium Treble Booster pedal, and pedals that have their own EQ controls and/or inherent mid-boost/"mid-hump"... Maybe if I dipped my toe into extensive EQ sculpting, though, especially with programmable memory slots and all that, I just might tumble right down that rabbit-hole... !
  20. What with the headphones-output and effects-loop (its 'loop is pre-'phones, correct?) and the capability of being very likely to closely match the desired tones and effects intended for rehearsal/gigs/recording, keeping one enthused and even inspired, it would be great for practicing! I use my Iridium A LOT for playing through headphones- for being silent in the house, getting thoroughly enjoyable tone and feel, and NOT wearing down the tubes in my 'real' amps. This Boss IR-2 is less expensive than the Iridium, and has some more features and options. I don't think I'd want to replace my Iridium with one (and there are also the UA Ruby and Dream to compare it to), but if I needed another such modeler/IR DI and headphones device in a pedal format, the IR-2 would be a cost-effective choice that I would feel more at ease with if banging around and/or letting someone else use on the fly at a gig or jam or whatnot. Naaa. Not in general- I'd bet that you'd get a lot of good, enjoyable use out of an EQ pedal. You might not need anything exceedingly 'fancy' and expensive, but some new tires for your Kia could improve your ride... ! Though, personally, I try to get all I can out of my guitars, pedals, amps, etc. without added EQ or Noise Suppression...
  21. Personally, I am gaga about the El Capistan. You can get just about any sort of character and tone out of it; certainly a "warm toned delay" can be easily coaxed from it. Turn up the Tape Age, find a Low End Contour 'sweet-spot' that satisfies, a little or a lot; Over-Bias for reduced clean headroom; crank Tape Crinkle and Wow & Flutter for more random 'character' and a squishy modulation. I want two more- one to use for a dedicated "Sound-on-Sound' tape-flavored looper, and another to mount on a stand for easy access to reach over and manipulate the controls for tape-echo freakouts a la Jimmy Page and "Bela Lugosi's Dead" by Bauhaus... Try this out- I posted this here long ago (that's a link): El Capistan Dub/Reggae Echo insanity
