If you just type spaces with the spacebar the software should slap your wrist and say no, but there is a ASCII value for a blank character so the most software see a character typed and accepts it. I used to use it name files or folders so the average person couldn't access, because they wouldn't know to type in the blank character that I'd put in the name. Since I retired I'm doing my best to forget a lot of the computer minutia I had accumulated over the decades so I don't remember the exact value for the blank character.
