omvibes
Hi all, yes I know that listening is the best way to learn ....however I would like to get a 'how to play Hammond organ' style book to get my Hammond chops up to speed. Google brings up Limina's 'Hammond organ complete', is there anything else I should be looking at? Did a search on this site as well, but didn't really come up with anything. I'm a reasonable-level pianist, reading music is no problem etc. Any input appreciated, thanks.
nickd
I've got the Limina book, and I'd recommend it - it seems well-targeted at pianists who can read music. It also assumes zero knowledge of Hammonds and explains all the jargon, which I found particularly helpful.
Joe Muscara
Beauty in the B by Mark Vail is good, but only has a section or two on playing techniques. It's more about the organs themselves. Dockeys
I'd second the two recommendations above. I have a few others in my bookcase at home. I'll have a look this evening and update you. There are only about 5/6 actual instruction manuals. Most of them deal with history but there are a few. Quote Yamaha MODX8, Legend Live.

Dockeys
Here are some more that i've accumulated over the years: The Hammond Organ - Beauty in the B: Mark Vail The Hammond Organ: An Introduction to the Instrument and the Players Who Made It Famous by Scott Faragher Classic Hammond Organ: Know the Players, Play the Music by Steve Lodder Joey DeFrancesco's Concepts for Improvisation by Joey DeFrancesco 101 Hammond B-3 Tips: Stuff All the Pros Know and Use by Brian Charette (as quoted by DenCV above) Ultimate Blues Organ Riffs (Book/Audio CD) by Andrew D. Gordon (Author) Then some DVD's with accompanying material: Blues and Rock Techniques for Hammond Organ - David Bennet Cohen Brian Auger -- Hammond B-3 Master: Learn Keyboard Techniques from the Legend Himself - Brian Auger Tony Monaco's site here has tonnes of stuff. I find his DVD's really helpful and you can dip in an out as needs be. And he gives one-on-one lessons over the net which is well worth considering. But you need to know what you want out of the lesson otherwise you could spend a whole hour just chatting about the Hammond! http://www.b3monaco.com/ YouTube Keith Appleton has some useful and short videos (About 50/60) about all things Hammond https://www.youtube.com/user/keithappleton Joe Doria also give online lessons: http://www.joedoriamusic.com/video-lesson-examples/ For more gospel tinged stuff go to Showmethat where they have buckets of DVDS from some amazing players. http://www.showmethat.com/index.php?pr=Home_Page And finally My Music Masterclass has some nice downloadable stuff from the likes of Larry Goldings, Brian Charette and others: https://www.mymusicmasterclass.com/premiumvideos/hammond-b3-masterclass-larry-goldings-1/ https://www.mymusicmasterclass.com/premiumvideos/jazz-organ-masterclass-brian-charette/ Quote Yamaha MODX8, Legend Live. hirsute
Brian Charrette has a good one I'd recommend, here: http://www.briancharette.com/new-products/101-hammond-b3-tips I just picked this one up, and it's quite good. Each of the 101 tips is very short and concise and usually includes a short exercise. Very digestible and clear.
