Wow -- thanks Tom, Ron, the rest of you for filling in while I've been DRIVING all day :) Crazykeys, I believe I got a call from Cascio/Interstate Music today about you -- were you asking about the Seattle Symphony orchestral ROM option?

If so, the answer is 'yes', the PC2 / X models that we sell new all have that option installed. I cannot say that for certain about a used unit, but that's not the question at hand.

I would easily second everything you've heard here (of course I would -- I work for the company!). From a strictly player's standpoint, I agree wholeheartedly that the PC2X has the best bread and butter sounds you can buy. Our K series has 24 MB rom from the factory and still plays / programs circles around the best of them for actual, usable sounds. Good luck in your choice, and please let me know if I can be of any assistance!

Hey, there was a temporary blip in my screen there, did you see that?

Anyway, yeah. You're right. I've discovered failed crabapple jelly makes a nice vodka cooler. Enough already.

Sounds like a good day for Kurzweil. No arguments here. (I must be drunk!) cheers.

I owned and gigged with both the PC-2X and the RD-300SX. I prefer the PC2X piano sound for live and action over the RD-300SX, except the PC2X is too heavy for me to move around. The PC2X piano sound is very balanced, it didn't get muffled in the lower velocities like my RD-300SX did live and it didn't bark too harshly like my RD-300SX piano did live. If it were lighter I would get another one. The PC2X is greatly improved by adding that Rhodes expansion board that Kurzweil finally came out with.

It sounds like you may want to add a PC2R to your FP2, and you're golden.

B3 organ mode is nicely laid out, but the Leslie sim is weak IMHO and you can't channel the organ voices to separate outputs (like you can on a K2600) to take advantage of a real rotary speaker or better sim. I use the Kurz organ voices regularly, but it sure wouldn't take much to talk me into one of the dedicated clonewheel keyboards or modules that either have a better Leslie sim or that I could separately route.

Larry.

Larry,

When I sold my B-3 clone, I was 'forced' into using the KB3 organ sounds on my PC2X. I agree that the leslie sim is very weak. I was playing around and sent a mono signal of the KB3 sounds into the organ side of my Motion Sound KBR-3D. I turned off the leslie sim in the KB3 editor and just used the raw organ sounds. WOW! It sounds fantastic. There are so many adjustments that you can make to the sound (pre-sets, live drawbar action, leakage, keyclick, etc.) that it is like having a clone. I don't really like to play organ on a weighted action (though I am getting more used to it) and use my other synth type action keyboard midied into the PC2X as much as possible(now I wish I had the PC2).

The other good point you made was the lack of seperate outputs. To get around this, I made a box that has stereo 1/4" inputs and stereo 1/4" outputs along with a mono 1/4" output that are controlled by a A/B switch. Now I can select the signal to go to either the stereo keyboard side or the mono organ side of the KBR with one set of outputs from the keyboard. :)

Kurzweil PC3, Hammond SK-1 + Ventilator, Korg Triton. 2 JBL Eon 510's.
