Lee Flier
I have an opportunity to pick up a Hammond T-100 with a built in Leslie, from a studio that is moving, for cheap. REALLY cheap. Bearing in mind that this would just be for home studio use, and that it's not likely I will ever be able to afford one of the better Hammonds, does anybody have any experience with this model and what do you think about it? paully
Lee, Click here, and scroll down to T-100. http://theatreorgans.com/hammond/faq/all_hammonds.html By the way, how cheap is 'really cheap'? linwood
Personally, if I were looking for a small Hammond for project/home studio use, I'd find an M3 and get a 145 or 147 or a 122. I don't know that the T with a built in leslie will satisfy you. The M3/leslie combo is a much better substitute for the B that you're really after. You can find M's pretty cheap. There's one on ebay right now. It closes in three hours, no bids and $99.00 takes it. If it were here in Vegas, I'd go get it today. It's a beauty. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=64429&item=7332377283&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW
Dave Pierce
Lee, I'd stay away from the "transistor tonewheel" models. I've only played one a couple of times, but it was really quite bad. Nothing like the real deal. The M-series and L-series will do much better for you, and you can find those easily for less than $500, sometimes a lot less. --Dave Make my funk the P-funk. Dave The Rave
Lee, I have heard of people stripping out the Leslie from T series organs and selling the bits separately on eBay. Depends whether you want to be bothered or not really... :DTR Cambrian Guitars
Jeep
Lee, a Hammond T with the built-in "Leslie" isn't too shabby. It is one of the desirable tonewheel models of Hammond organs, so the basic guts, drawbars, and sound are happening. The inboard "Leslie Lite" apparatus is a simple bonus. When engaged, it imparts a reasonably pleasant-sounding approximation of a full-blown Leslie. If interested, they can be modified "six ways from Sunday". For example: http://www.keyboardpartner.de/hammond/t-modifications.htm IMHO, if it's working, and ultra-cheap, grab it ! It beats the pants offa lotsa organs. Lee Flier
Heh... well I decided to pass on it, mainly because a bandmate just bought a new Nord Electro, so we're not really hurting for cool organ sounds. Thanks for all the advice though! Maybe one day I'll have a real Hammond!
