Well, if you had a choice between hearing me sing or sing through a vocoder, you would pick the latter.

 

However, talkboxes are much cooler than vocoders.

 

Slight thread highjack:

 

What is the best Vocoder, I am not that impressed with the Korg Ms 2000 in this regard.

you gotta go analog for decent , musical vocoding. only cheap one that still has some 'mojo' of the more expensive units is MAM Vocoder (arround 150), it has some of the Kraftwerk Bode sound in it, very cutting, intelligible. next in line would be a used vintage SVC350 (500+). but, ver different sound - typical Roland, "aquarel" type - warm, mushy. then you have Doepfer modular vocoder (Iwhich i dont like the sound of too much), a used Korg VC10, VP330 etc.. expensive stuff.

Find a copy of Neil Young's Trans album. That has vocoder all over it.

 

Herbie Hancock has also used vocoder to good effect.

 

However, no one would ever mistake these efforts as anything other than a novelty.
