  1. thanks for the answers. i thought of clones like Allan, Victoria etc but not sure thats the way, for several reasons: 1. most that sell finished amps are small operations and dont have distro in eu (where im at) 2. their prices enter the range where i could get original fender. yet have poor resale value. early 60s fender otoh.. 3. most clones are of smaller brownface amps, that had bias trem (deluxe, vibrolux or princeton), not the harmonic tremolo i'd like 4. getting one build locally from best parts like mercury magnetics etc... same as point 2. yes, they say its like a transitional type. mids like tweed, but later breakup, tops cleaner. no mid scoop like black/silver. about silverfaces, i presume you mean the ear splitting high mids and presence. reason why i got my sf twin is it has none of that. orig 72 modded to ab763 circuit. and top is just glorious. not tilted or harsh at all. fender didn't do straight brownface circuit reissue all these years. well until recent chris stapleton brown princeton. but on a/b it sounds nothing like the old. bright like many of their reissues. i cant say im in love with any of the RI. best blackface amp i ever heard was a 66 bassman cranked on 15" with a les paul. even tho im not a guitar player (tho i sometimes produce guitars) i pissed my pants. thats interesting to hear. i presume Pro goes into breakup earlier, and showman is more open and similar to twin with ton more headroom. i'm thinking of picking up either brown Pro or Concert, and fitting a larger Vibrasonic output transformer - thats what ive read some have done to accomodate more traditional rhodes sound.
  2. last few months: Yamaha CS50 - rare mint cond w shiny tolex. sounds wonderful, have been jamming on it ever since.. MXR Phase 100 script logo. i was looking for the phaser used on wind and wuthering for yrs, but didn't know what i was, and then.. Oberheim Matrix 6R - havent had dco synths in years. but kept coming back to its ambient/idm-ish demos.. something special about it
  3. hi chaps, i use two amps for my mk1 and mk2. early silverface twin or suitcase bottom from the mk2. twin has its trademark high headroom, sparkly but sweet top, mid scoop typical of silver/blackface designs. and just enough tube colour. suitcase is darker, cleaner, and stereo with opto trem. so, been reading about brownface amps (brown/blonde tolex era), and a few Rhodes players who swear by these. general idea is, slightly earlier but gradual breakup, warm mids no scoop, and that tube harmonic tremolo (with the larger models like pro, concert, super, bandmaster etc). been thinking of picking one up to add another tube flavor for keys, guitars whatever. strictly studio affair. was wondering if any of you old cats have used a brownface circuit with Rhodes or other keys, and what are your thoughts ? thanks

  8. hi everyone. my name is Tomislav Babic. I'm 35 and I live in Croatia. I work as a freelance film/tv composer in Zagreb. I took piano lessons from age of 7 to 14. Listening to a lot of prog and electronic from 70s from my older brother's records mayde me want to play and make something like that. So, beginning high school i got a poly800 and started composing - sort of. Later i played in a local progrock trio using Hammond X5 DX7 and a JX10. In parallel my fascination with synths and electronic sound experimentation grew. It all stopped when i went to study electrical engineering at the university. After 3 yrs I decided to return to my music roots and left to spend couple of years studying composition and orchestration at UCSB. I also had classes in electronic music with "classic" tape tehniques as well as dsp, computer editing etc. After this , with newly found esteem i went home, and more or less started what i do to this day. I wrote music for many animated films, most of them had some success on international festivals of animation. Also, I scored documentaries, short and experimental films, theater plays. Last year I finally scored a full-length motion picture, which was my long time dream. Style of music that I write is usually contemporary classical with Ravel, Stravinsky, Bartok and Borodin as my influences, and/or ambient electronic featuring synthesis and extensive sound design/audio editing. Sometimes, if project calls for it, i add some local ethnic flavor as well (voice, guitar, etc) I own a small studio geared towards my needs. It is centered arround a PC/Nuendo2/Rosetta800. Hardware is ADAM P22, TC4000, SRV3030D etc Orchestration is done w Kontakt and E4XTU. I use the following synths: Roland JD990, MKS70 w PG800 Yamaha TX802, FS1R Korg Triton Studio Pro Alesis Andromeda Waldorf XT30 Rhodes Mark I (just got it) Other things i do: -Playing keyboards in a mildly succesful Croatian rock band FLARE; we recorded our 2nd album recently. We played tours thru Croatia , and neighboring Slovenia and Bosnia. This provided a much needed break from studio, as well as lot of good times in strange places. -Mixing Croatian VO with with English language IT track for animated series like Powerpuff Girls and Pokemon , for Croatian "Nova TV" -I've done a couple of remix projects and that's something i'd like to do more in the future. Future wishes: to find time and finish my ambient/electro lounge tracks and find somebody to release it. To be an electronic music recording artist is my still unfulfilled dream. Thanks to all for making this such a great forum. Specially to guys here responsible for makings of a really fantastic instrument(s).. Tom
