147Keys
I agree with everyone here. I love my iPod. The biggest reason to get it for me was that every time I left the house I was like, "OK, I gotta grab a couple CDs to listen to in the car. What should I get?" And then I'd spend 5-10 minutes staring at my CD collection. Often I'd simply forget and have to settle for - cringe - the radio. Now I just grab my iPod! EricG- I hope you're not disappointed with the Apple in-ear headphones. In-ears are definitely the way to go if you're listening while exercising or riding public transit. In my opinion, however, the best in-ears for the money are the Sony MDR-EX71SL, for about $40. They seal out most outside sound and have excellent bass. The headphones that come with iPod are worthless. Check out iPod Lounge for headphone and other iPod accessory reviews.
RABid
I've been very happy with a set of Koss clip on headphones. When riding the bike I can still hear traffice, and when I use them at home while composing on the laptop I can hear the phone or TV. They do seem useless on an airplane. Sound quality is muy importante to me.If quality is "muy importante" then do what i do and encode with the Apple Lossless codec. I do all my MP3's on Linux, the encoder that i use is called LAME and has pretty good quality. I've heard there is a Windows version of LAME as well, but i never used it. Valkyrie Sound
I just ordered my 40GB personalized ipod today! Wo HO! I'm also going to get a new car stereo with Alpine's new Ipod control system. Check it out: www.alpine1.com How are you guys storing your real CDs these days? I got such a huge collection now I'm thinking of binders with CD pages but I'm worried about the plastic of the pages sticking to my CDs. Any tips? Geoff Grace
I saw one of these last week at Ikea. It was designed for the kitchen, so its drawers should be sturdy enough to hold CDs. After using the tape measure, I guesstimated that the unit should hold 900-1,000 CDs in its drawers (with title edges up). http://www.ikea-usa.com/PIAimages/19986_PE073723_S3.jpg Värde drawer unit W27 3/8" x D25 5/8" x H55 1/2" Best, Geoff My Blue Someday appears on Apple Music | Spotify | YouTube | Amazon

cnegrad
Too bad the iPod does not support the FLAC format (like Apple Lossless but the codec is not proprietary).[/QB]Any high quality codec would have to be proprietary to Apple, so that they can tell the record labels that they are addressing copywrite infringment. RABid
For storing CD's I have gone through various shelves, racks and cabnets with drawers. I eventually settled on my current system. My 40 most used CD's are on a wall rack in my hallway. For the other 900+ CD's I use lids to copy paper boxes. The CD's are sorted by type such as latin, rock, classical, Time-Life colelctions, etc... Each type has a seperate box. All the boxes are stacked in the back corner of my closet. In addition, all CD's have been ripped to 258 mp3's. A set of CD's are stored in a file cabnet at work, and all songs are stored on a single larg HD. It's my mega jute box.
