The Vintage Keyboards QCard was a major disappointment. It has a handful of decent patches but definitely not worth the $100 I paid. I did like the Rhodes patches but having never owned or played one, I couldn't rate them. My gripe was with the overall content.

I bought and returned the Stereo Jazz Piano Card. Nothing there!! I ended up picking up the Vintage Synths card. It has some good stuff on it. I have used several patches and they all sound good. Too bad I'm not much into programming (especially with the QSR), otherwise, I think I'd probably get more out of that card... I paid $75 for it on Ebay! Certainly worth that much!

What I've found to be the problem w/ the Alesis QS series is that within one or two octaves, usually the lower midrange, they sound OK - but the lowest octave and the highest two are almost uniformly off-base. It's not a problem unless you really know what the original sounds are, and then compare.

I used to think I was Libertarian. Until I saw their platform; now I know I'm no more Libertarian than I am RepubliCrat or neoCON or Liberal or Socialist.

This ain't no track meet; this is football.

One stock patch I've been playing with which seems pretty decent is the Dual Rhodes in the MIX (1?) bank. I find that sometimes the extra layers in the MIXes give better sounds than the Programs.

The best Rhodes sounds are on the Vintage Keys card. I like the VeloRoads1 cross-switch, I use a modified version of it on my QS8. The Classical card is OK, some decent strings and horns. Sanctuary is actually a very cool card - great bells, voices, and my favorite bass sounds in the QS library. The Hip Hop/Euro Dance, etc. cards were dated the minute they came out, and haven't improved with age. I haven't played much with the Vintage Synths card, but I remember it having mostly brash leads with filter sweeps and things, not really my style. It felt like the programmers were showing off, lots of complex noisy programs that weren't very playable.

Most of the QCards have sounds that are 30-40% better than the presets. Impossible to quantify, but you get the idea. There is more room for the sample on the card so it sounds a little nicer, but not miraculously so. There are MP3 demos on the Alesis site which show the cards, you might want to check those out.

I'll definately check out the DualRhodes in the mix mode - I've been using the FatRhodes from the stock user patch. The high end just doesn't come close, though - I can't stop thinking "Doogie Howser"

Has anyone had any luck tweaking the factory rhodes patches?
