Renie Posted July 24, 2002 Posted July 24, 2002 Y'know that lead sound that features so heavily in John Barry's work and many scores of the 60's and 70's..(eg.The Persuaders Theme and The Ipcress File) it sounds a bit like a zither? Does anyone know what the sound actually is? And the reverb/processing? Could it be a guitar even?? Appreciate any info! thanks Renie Renie Coffey | riverattic
Mark Zeger Posted July 24, 2002 Posted July 24, 2002 Is it is the same Southeast Asian plucked string sound that was used throughout his score for "The Man with the Golden Gun"? It's probably a koto: http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/~NP5Y-HRUC/kt-what.html It could be a Coral Electric Sitar or a Danelectro Bellzouki played by some session guitarist (the late Tommy Tedesco use to play things like this): http://www.jerryjonesguitars.com/Master%20sitar.htm (the Jerry Jones sitar is a modern copy of the original Coral...and I want one) http://www.vintagetechnology.com/item_pages/danelectro_bellzouki.htm John Barry rules!
aeon Posted July 24, 2002 Posted July 24, 2002 The sound you hear in The Ipcress File is a cymbalom, which is a Hungarian zither that is played with hammers. Go tell someone you love that you love them.
Renie Posted July 26, 2002 Author Posted July 26, 2002 Thanks mzeger and aeon:thu: Seems to be a cymbalon, I've actually got a cymbalon on my Orch II JV card, it's not too bad. Anyone know of any sample CD's with cymbalons? thanks a lot Renie Renie Coffey | riverattic
