Andromeda, if you're interested

Touched by Sound in Germany has a blue Andromeda up on Ebay.de with a buy-it-straight-out price of 5,990 DM, or $3,288, plus shipping of course.

Just thought someone might want to know- the TBS store price (this one was a demo) is 9,099 DM.

Okay maybe no big deal, but I've noticed some posts on forums along the lines of "can you even buy the thing?"

At least in Canada, where the distribution channels have changed (everything's flowing through one office/warehouse in Montreal), the 'new' prices (once/if production is resumed) will be up around 25% --> instead of $3,999 for the Andromeda it's slated to be $4,999 . . . for the same as the pre-crash synth! I think Alesis spent too much money making their marketing department rich . . . all those bonuses (bonii?) http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

Speaking as an ex-member of Alesis' marketing department, let me just say...what bonuses? I wish...

If you mean their current marketing department, I don't believe that there is one. At least, no one that I know, anyway.

Yeah, ex-Alesis marketing guys like me and Dave Bryce are swimming in the millions we made in bonuses. Dave drives a Ferrari Testarossa, while I prefer my Rolls Corniche. We vacation in Monte Carlo, live in castles and have 15 concubines each.

Now, back to reality. We probably made a lot less in salary and/or bonuses than any schmo that does marketing for a toothpaste or shoelace manufacturer. We work in audio because we like audio, and take our financial lumps as a result. We ain't in it for the money, and that's true no matter what audio company you work for, to the best of my knowledge.

Gee, you would think with that kind money that you could hire a full-time nanny to follow your cat around and keep it from hurling groceries all over your equipment!

Or at least catch it when it happens!

So, all you Alesis marketing guys that are lounging around comparing concubines and motor cars...what are you up to now. Where did the Alesis people go if not with the new owner? And, any idea what Alesis is up to as far as going forward or fading?

Jeff's at Tascam, steadyb works for Emagic, and I am working on starting my company that imports the ADAM monitors, along with writing for Keyboard and doing some work for an MI company that must remain unnamed for the time being.

Where did the Alesis people go if not with the new owner?

Scattered all over the place. I think there's less than 25 people at Alesis - most of them are engineers, I believe. As I said - as far as I know, there are no marketing people at Alesis right now.

And, any idea what Alesis is up to as far as going forward or fading?

No idea, really.

Hey, don't let them fool you: They had lunch catered every day. Then again, I had some of those lunches -- maybe they were more punishment than perk. ;-)

Well for your sake and our sakes, I hope they do something in synths, my friend. Too much of a gift you got there, Dave.

Saving for Andromeda,

No, they're not. It's actually not a synth project that I'm working on right now. That's why I want the company to go unnamed - I don't want unfounded rumors of them doing a synth to start flying around.

Too much of a gift you got there, Dave.

Thanks for the compliment, Jerry - you're way too kind!

Robin Leach here (with appropriate volume and accent), Andy is unfortunately not at the estate and has left me the honor (honour) to reply to you all on this $20000 marble based solid gold qwerty keyboard while I laze on a hammock next the smaller of the two olympic pools. He just popped off on the Gulfstream with his buddies to test some new skiis in New Zealand. He once told me that because Alesis only had limited incentive programs, he would only fly in (from Montreal) for the free lunch once or twice a week.

Now, to all the Canadians who feel that NuLesis or their new distributor is gouging with new pricing on Andromeda, please compare the $US retail price with the equivalent Canadian price. Now please compare this with other US keyboard products in the marketplace and as well with Japanese and Euro synths as well. This new pricing is completely in line with current exchange rates. The previous Alesis distribution network (of which I was 1/2), had attempted to price certain items so that dealers would have an extra incentive in stocking and selling Alesis. Unfortunately in some cases particularly with Andromeda, these dealers were simply dumping the keyboard back into the USA without even showing a demo to their local clients. Some lucky people got one heck of a deal.

I have no affiliation whatsoever with Alesis' current distribution, in fact there are still some rattling bones in the closet however I have now seen this thread about the pricing a few times too often and thought that it is only fair to clear up any misunderstandings.

It says right there in his forum handle- Psionic Sex!

If you Exalesians have any clout with the current or future crew... a very stripped down rackmount/desktop mini Andromeda, in the true Andromeda style but just the basics would be a hit IMO. Take a look at what people are paying for ANYTHING with a VCO or two, a good filter and some routing possibilities.

Cameron -

Believe me when I say that a whole bunch of incarnations of Andromeda were discussed looooooong before anyone outside of Alesis even knew that there was going to be such a thing.

I think right now they're working on getting actual Andromedas built. You probably shouldn't hold your breath waiting for spin-off products...

...of course, I could be wrong...I actually hope that I am. I'd love to see an Andy Rack...and an 8-voice Andy...and a desktop Andy...and a little baby mono Andy... http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Yeah the Voyager was out there in some parallel galaxy or some such crazy shit, but they had that Borg lady...

Talk about waiting, how about the Mephisto? In developement for 10+ years, you can queue up behind Vince Clark and order one for something like $2,750 last I heard, when it'll be built I don't know...

http://www.vermona.com/de/mephisto/meph_fe.htm

Anyway the guys building this thing are doing something that seems like a really good idea- they've got a couple of the analog filters from the long awaited synth in a rackmount unit for <$250 dollars.

32 voice Andy? Just buy two.

Hello Andy and all of the other ex-Alesisans out there. I'm plugging away at the post business, although I kinda miss paychecks... health care... free office supplies... sorry I drifted off there. I'm working freelance on manuals for Alesis right now. Ineko, CLX-440, Andromeda 64-voice Modular, and PEQ-450. Lots of work, but fun. I'll let you know if I see any new toys around the labs. -jl

You little rumor-starting bastard! So, I heard the 64-voice modular retails for $129.50 and will be available at Wal-Mart next week, or as soon as you finish the manual.

Speaking of which...good job on the HD24 manual...I believe that was you as well, correct?

Very funny, Mr. Manual Man. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/wink.gif Trust me that Alesis was one of the very first owners of an MX-2424. And likewise, we have all the other toys around here to check out and play with...both Mackie machines, an iZ RADAR and so on. Gotta know the ups and downs of all these things.

However, we don't have an HD24 here yet, but I got your manual off the web site. Good job on that. But I don't know if they're actually shipping the Alesis box or not yet. Anyone here in the Keyboard Corner own one or have one on order?
