Hey, I just want you all to have some mercy...

The vocals were written in English, specially for the Keyboard Corner MP3.com site.

Unfortunately, my pronunciation could not convince everybody and the vocal performance could be obviously improved at a later time. However I want you to listen to it "as it is": A synth pop tune, for light moods.

Thanks for the opportunity and the time you will spend downloading it and listening to it. It is a Honor having such audience.

Hey, if you think this really sucks, I could switch it to other tune with a very different mood. I'm really gonna read your replys.

Gus,

Your modesty is nice, but uncalled for. This is "radio ready" just as it is... maybe for more star power you have Julio Englasias sing it or something, but your vocals are actually very well done. Great engineering job. If you could enlighten us regarding your equipment and techniques, I bet we could all learn a thing or two...

I'm not always a huge "pop" fan, but this one didn't make me want to jerk for the "stop" button at all... In fact, there was a thread on Craig's forum that was basically: If you think writing pop songs is so easy... let's see you do it...

Well, Gus my friend... YOU DID IT!

P.S. I'm not sure if Gus is a family name or what... and I certainly mean no disrespect (at all!), but it seems a little humorous to me that a guy writing 2001 pop tunes with such elan is named Gus... http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gifhttp://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gifhttp://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I'm still "guitplayer"!

Wow, Gus! VERY NICE! Your voice sounds great! I'd like to know more about the vocal processing - I don't think it could have been done any better than this. You sing in English very clearly with almost no accent.

Nice arrangement, too. We'll have to discuss it sometime, e.g. what parts did you do on Reaktor, ReBirth, SQ1, DS1, etc?

Daaaaayum!!! Talk about radio-ready production!

Nothing wrong with your voice either, it has a Bono or Simple Minds kind of snarl... Very pleasing to listen to! I'm VERY impressed! a great example of 90s dance-pop! Great dimension and imaging, especially on the vox production.

Fantastic!!!!

Ok, my dear "JalaCuerdas" and Daniel:

Regarding the VOCALS of the song:

Dang... I have to confess...

I DON'T use a REAL Microphone. I have recorded this tune using the 5 dollars PC MIC bundled with the Sound Blaster card... yes...

I created a home-built POP-FILTER to record the vocals without pops and Distortion generated by air pressure and record like whispering into it or if I have to sing loud, I go to the other corner of the room and goes as loud as I can. It's a matter of technique...

After getting the vocal part recorded, I do the following process in SoundForge:

1) Noise Gate

2) Parametric EQ to eliminate HUMM from cheap Mic.

3) Normalizing process, if required

4) ANTARES MIC MODELER to change the apparent response of the mic to emulate an AKG C 414 B-ULS GOLD (I love this trick http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif)

3) TIMEWORKS MASTER EQ to enhance or cut some frequencies

5) TC NATIVE Reverb, very short (@2.3 tail)

6) TIMEWORKS Delay

The "Off" effect in the second phrase of the song was created with a band pass filter from Arboretum.

Choruses have a lot more of delay and Reverb and are panned to create a Stereo Image including the delay tails. The Mix is done in ACID, using automation envelopes.

Basically, the vocals of all of my songs are produced like this. This one had only 3 backing voices.

...and voila

About the usage of synths:

The PIANO and the bell like sounds were taken MIDI from my EnsoniQ SQ1 Plus. The same piano sound was passed through Steimberg's FUSSION FILTER for those Sweap-Up filter Fx.

The Basic "mmtss - mmtss" kick / Hat sound was generated by ReBirth. Some other percussion, the snare and hats were from my custom sample library. All of them are loops.

The only "step input" instruments are Snare and Cymbals.

The BASS sounds are samples from my SoundFonts libraries. They were samples from Minimoogs and Juno synths.

All the Arpeggio-alike analog emulations came from Reaktor using its own filters and Fx and sometimes using some PlugIns to enhace the Filter Fx accordingly with the song.

That's it, gentlemen... thanks for your input! Highly appreciated...

Well done. It does hearken back to the Simple Minds school of synth-driven pop. Not my native genre, but I dig this. It's all pretty cohesive with a nice even, floating melody.

I like it. Strong "New Order" vibe in this track. I can't believe how good the vocals sound with your crazy micing technique! I guess that Antares software really works. Great bass and synths too. I love all of this new music we're gaining from the Forum CD. Thanks for submitting this. -jl

I am surprised with your responses, gentlemen.

Now I would like to ask you all what do you think about the lyrics... remember English is not my native language... does them make any sense? How about the rhyme?

Expecting comments here... and thanks again for your input !!

I LOVE THIS TUNE!

A lot of elements from some great 80's bands: erasure, new order, and others. The tune flows smoothly, in a refreshing yet familiar way. The vocals sound great too; whatever plug in you used was perfect. The whole tune is definetly 'radio-ready'. Sucks that I don't have a CD burner so I can listen to this stuff in my car.

This is totally the style I used to listen to in high school, with a more 'modern' interpretation.

When can we expect more like this??????

Korg Kronos X73 / ARP Odyssey / Motif ES Rack / Roland D-05 / JP-08 / SE-05 / Jupiter Xm / Novation Mininova / NL2X / Waldorf Pulse II

Hey Rod !

Thank you very, very much !

This is actually the "purest" of my songs regarding the original synth pop sound from the bands you mentioned. I do admire them a lot as you might guess.

However, My other tunes have a more updated feeling.

You could find them in our Web Site in Spanish:

Gus, you should write a book about plug ins and how to use them. Then you should write ANOTHER book about how to create dance beats. I'm VERY impressed!

Absolutely!! I was reading the credits & this thread & trying to figure out what software & what plugin WASN'T used. What a great job with the vocals & the scary sounding "microphone". I agree Radio Ready!!!

Better late than never. I finally got a chance to download and listen to the cd compilation tunes this weekend. It was pretty awe inspiring. I am still on a high about the great talent we have rubbing shoulders here.

Gus, I like your vocal. It has a nice bite. And your production is great too. I like the synth sounds, especially the main riff and the synth bass. Very nice.

Regards,

Jerry
