What's best from Playing live?

Just for the record: http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

a) Feeling the audience's Vibe

b) Interacting with some of your fellow musicians for a nice Jam

c) Getting drunk with an excuse (before the gig to get ready and after the gig to celebrate)

d) Getting in the tour bus with some of your fans to do the Funky Chicken

("Show? What show? get lost please") http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/tongue.gif

e) Collecting Bra's or Panties from the girls in the audience

f) Have the chance to scratch your balls in front of a lot of people making them yell "we want more"

g) Make your fellow musicians feel they are still needed to actually make some good live music (yeah, I'm talking about those human MiniMoog clones and those nasty and noisy hairy guys with a weird 6 string wodden thing. Drummers?? What's that? Oh yes, the human counterparts of those ALESIS and LINN's...)

h) Getting a check for doing what do you like the best...

IMO, everything but the "C" since I don't drink alcohol... http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/wink.gif

Have a nice day...

Gus:

For me it was always the immediacy of performing challenging music live with the chance of screwing it up. Pulling off a complicated piece like "Heart of the Sunrise" with 4 other players and actually doing it. It's one of the reasons I gave up playing out: By the time I "retired" it was either holding pads down, or doing brass parts. It just wasn't FUN anymore.

Setup: Korg Kronos 61, Roland XV-88, Korg Triton-Rack, Motif-Rack, Korg N1r, Alesis QSR, Roland M-GS64 Yamaha KX-88, KX76, Roland Super-JX, E-Mu Longboard 61, Kawai K1II, Kawai K4.

I want to thank Mr. Joe Gerardi its opinion, the only one, in this, the most boring thread in this Forum...

He is right, I missed to mention the challenge of sounding good live.

My main live gig is with my wife and 3, sometimes 4 guys with whom I have played with on and off for years. We are best of friends. We have all toured either the entire US and most of Canada or in the drummers case, the entire world 4 or 5 times. We play jazz, blues, swing, and funk...heavy on the improv.

We know each other so well that it always sounds tight. But, there are still those nights when the chemistry is just right and it is mind blowing. Even my wife agrees that on those nights the best sex we've ever had couldn't hold a candle to the feeling we get corporately from playing together. And of course, on those nights even the nonmusical customers are drawn into the emotion and a great time is had by all.

I live for those times. It just simply doesn't get any better than that.

Now....if only we could manage to capture one of those gigs on some form of recording media or another. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif JW

Hey Gus!

My best thing about playing live is having my band be so tight and well rehearsed, that the audience and their emotions are right "in the palm of our hands!!!".

Hey Alby, I am really sorry.

I do not want to start a gender flame war... perhaps I'm becoming a sort of a "Pop Star" and I'm loosing my brains... dang... bad thing I'm not famous.. yet http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/wink.gif Thanks for bringing me again to earth and reminding me to avoid some comments...

I was talking about my own experiences... perhaps you have had some excellent or curious experiences while playing live which make you know if you love or hate doing it... tell us, please http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif

So sorry, again http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/frown.gif

back to the topic at hand... http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif

I have to admit, the best thing about playing live is getting PAID to do what I would do anyway... plus getting to buy new gear all the time without a penny coming from my day job salary... and getting to write it all off on top of it all! free gear! free gear! http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
