Gawd damn fucking hell!!!

Recommended Posts

There's nothing more fustrating than posting a mile long post only to discover you've entered the wrong password!

And then you hit the back button, and it's all gone!! Grrrr.....

Moderators, pleeeeease fix this! I've been on other UBB powered forums that didn't have this *feature*..

Or do I have to wait until there's an eq.mag BBS V2.0??

Which browser are you using? The system used to work like this, but now when I click on the back button using AOL (Windows, which is basically IE), the text is there and ready to relaunch.

I've had long posts get lost, too. Sometimes, I just figure, hell, I'm not gonna bother to type it again. Ctrl+c is definitely adviseable to use (a temporary digital backup file?) when posting those long, clever ones that you know you'll never be able to get exactly right if you have to do a re-take.

BTW, I have Windows, using Comcast @Home, and when I hit the Back button, the text is gone.

Here's a thread on this issue that I opened last year with the developers of this forum software.

Unfortunately the back button behavior varies from browser to browser on different platforms and computers. There is no reliable way to force caching, or to prevent caching for that matter.

I just had to put that there to piss off all of you non-shiftworkers who are back into the work week. (Evil grin)...but take heart...while you all are backyard barbecuing this Saturday and Sunday, I'll be working midnights.

Yep there was a thread in George's forum a while back.

On PC Netscape 4.x, the Back button seems to cache the text...

But you can put javascript to prevent resetting of the form when it reloads, which is actually what is happening behind the scenes. It's only a couple of lines, and it seems to work well. If anyone wants it, e-mail me a request.

I'm the only one who can use "moron" around here. It's kinda like MY word.

LOL

How about if you type, THEN you "copy" and if it disappears you can just paste it again.

Using IE5 with Windows Me, the program asked me if I want it to remember my password and enter it every time I click to post. It works flawlessly, I just click in the user name box, and presto the name and password are automatically entered, too cool I say.

I hate it when this happens too! I have said "awww, forget it" a couple of times after typing in a post and having the page fail to post.

I've taken to copying the things "just in case" - especially if it's a long post (as most of mine are...)

Hmm, experiment time: Nice short message, easily remembered.. think I'll try hitting the "back button" in mid-u/l and see what happens...

which only goes to prove, yet again, that Bill Gates is the antichrist, microsoft is a communist plot to take over the world and Elvis was spotted eating a friedn peanut butter and banana laced Wopper at a burger King in Klamouth Falls Oregon last night...

Just kidding... I know it's not Musicplayer's fault, but it's annoying nonetheless...

Just to clarify it's not the UBB it's the browser. Blame Microsoft. They have a work around for IE 5.5 but it's a pretty serious hack that would only work on people who have PC IE 5.5...

MS is such an example of a bureaucracy ruining something.

They pick so many decisions to make from a god-head standpoint that are counter-intuitive. It will be very interesting to read about the internal managerial stucture years from now. I think people will eventually conclude that human organizations, once they reach a certain criticial size, automatically start making bad decisions as a side effect of the bureaucracy.

I could have just inserted a standard MS joke I guess....
