Yeah, but check out www.VSPlanet.com (UBB too) it doesn't do that..

I tried it with Mac Netscape 4.7 and it does NOT cache, i.e., rememeber, the text when hitting the Back button...but it did on PC IE 5.0...strange behaviors that's for sure...

Also, note that VSPlanet uses an older version of the UBB (5.39) and we use 5.47e. Infopop (the forum creators) did some code changes that could lead to the differences in expected performance...

I've seen your posts regarding MS's programming of IE 5.0.

No one has mentioned that Craig is right. In AOL's own embedded version of IE, it must be caching, because you CAN back up retaining your input.

I, for some unknown reason, was locked out of the Musicplayer.com server using IE 5.0. (No one informed me I was banned or anything like that. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/wink.gifhttp://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/eek.gif )

I tried access through AOL, and what do you know? It worked. That's when I discovered that AOL saved my info. Problem is, I can't always use the AOL account. It's being shared over at least 3 states and as many users. (family) It's not my basic connection, either.

So why can AOL embedded IE recall, and stand alone IE 5.0 does not?

(Thanks Tedster for directing me here! http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif )

Even though AOL does use IE as its browser it uses a customized version. It probably is caching the post using the Back button.

It's not IE 5.0 that "locked" you out. It's most likely the ISP you use. Next time that happens send me an email after you do a traceroute. On a PC, go to MS Dos prompt. Type "tracert www.musicplayer.com >tracemp.txt" (without the quotes). This will create a text file (called tracemp.txt) in the default directory that you got into DOS with which is most likely "C:/Windows". Email me the text file after it's completed. It may take a minute or 2 to create. You can also look at the results of the trace program and if the trace does not leave your ISP's backbone, then it's definitely an issue with your ISP and a call and/or email to tech support is in order.

Oh, I believe we do have a "back door" into the site. For anyone who has problems connecting to the site, try http://www-b.musicplayer.com/. We should have any issues resolved shortly as we switch from the PSI & Verio backbones to BBNPlanet/Genuity.

Just to clarify it's not the UBB it's the browser. Blame Microsoft. They have a work around for IE 5.5 but it's a pretty serious hack that would only work on people who have PC IE 5.5...

Then why does it only happen on this board. The VSPlanet site doesn't do this. It's really annoying!
