GC occasionally sells 12" Wuhans for ten bucks each. Some sound great, others don't.

So don't look at the cymbal, LISTEN to the cymbal! If it sounds good to your ears, it's definitely worth 70 bucks. If it doesn't sound good to you, it ain't worth five bucks.

I used to think I was Libertarian. Until I saw their platform; now I know I'm no more Libertarian than I am RepubliCrat or neoCON or Liberal or Socialist.

This ain't no track meet; this is football.

Drumn:

Here is the deal. Authentic Chinese "Lion" cymbals (as they are called ... as they symbolically represent the call of a lion) are ceremonial cymbals in the Orient. They are used for funeral and wedding processionals.

So, some manufacturers buy bulk Chinese Lion cymbals and call them WUHAN cymbals (as they *are* made in WUHAN China ... in the Wuhan factory). However, these bulk buy cymbals are typically thicker in hammer and heavier in weight.

The WUHAN (trade mark) Cymbal Company is a U.S. distributor that has a standard to which those cymbals are made and selected for shipment as Authentic Wuhans. These cymbals are typically thinner in hammer and lighter in weight. They give a fantastic "trashy" sound. I used to have an 18" that was so loud that I temporarily deafened a bass player that was too close to the cymbal when I struck it during a performance!

Additionally the bulk buy cymbals may or may not have a hole large enough to accept most standard cymbal posts. You would then have to risk damage and drill the existing hole larger.

Make sure if you order via phone that you specify to the guy on the other end of the phone that you want an authentic WUHAN cymbal with the WUHAN name on it. (not just etched, but the black painted version). This ensures that you are getting a great cymbal that has been selected for US drumming standards.

Additionally, all of these are drilled to accept the universal standard cymbal stand post.

Bottom line, for $30- $50 bucks, you are getting a killer cymbal, and for that price, ... they are almost disposable!

Hope this helps.

I have a 12" Wuhan. Its very loud. Its held up pretty well too. If you were asking about a crash cymbal, then the tone would be an issue, but the point of chinas is to sound trashy, so even cheap chinas are gonna sound good. I don't know the whole history of China cymbals, but these are a great deal and hold up well (and, as I said, are very loud). Go for it.

I have a 20", 18" 16" & 14" Wuhan. For the price that are very good and very trashy sounding (the way I like my China cymbal to sound).

They do have a tendancy to break easy if hit too hard (I've never broken one - but when I worked in a drum shop I got complaints from some of the "heavy hitters")

I like my Wuhans - which is why I bought one in almost every size.

I've got a 12" Wuhan china that's just great! I just need to figure how to mount it for maximum sustain. It's kinda muffled by the cymbal felt on my stand right now. :( I've got it mounted with the edges turned down, so it doesn't eat up my sticks. I'd buy another if I had the money, probably a 18" or 16"

I've had my 21" Wuhan for about 18 years now. In a word, it's RUDE! (I've seen fellow band members duck, and front row audience members jump when I spanked it!) I love the unique trashiness of the sound; definitely not a cymbal for every situation, but when I wanna make a statement, that Wuhan gets the point across! By all means, all a nice add to your arsenal.

I used to have a Wuhan 18" chinese which I wish I would have kept; I traded it in on some new gear a few years ago. At the time I wasn't using it enough -- very loud and raw. People at my church complained about it! But it does have its uses in specific playing situations. I think that Wuhans are an incredible value; probably the best deal out there. I play all Sabian HHX, so I'm saving my money to stay within that same series. But I can highly recommend Wuhan. They sell a great sounding 10" splash through Musicians Friend for $40 -- a must have if you don't already have a splash.

Go to your local Guitar Center (I don't have a local GC, but I was visiting my sister in Atlanta this weekend), and you can pick up a 12" Wuhan for TEN BUCKS!!! I know I did - I couldn't resist such a cheap thrill. It's great.
