bassaddik
I am so sad, i just heard the news that Don Alias passed away. I loved him! he was a percussionist and drummer extraordinaire. He was the guy on congas playing on Jaco's version of " Donna Lee "- i saw him with live a couple of times, and he was awesome, he also played in the legendary Joni Mitchell band with Jaco, Pat Metheny , Miichael Brecker and Lyle Mays... may the Lord God receive him with open arms. We have lost a treasure... rest in peace, Don Praise ye the LORD. ....praise him with stringed instruments and organs... Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. excerpt from- Psalm 150 visit me at: www.adriangarcia.net for His glory
Bottomgottem
"We have lost a treasure..." indeed. My whole trick is to keep the tune well out in front. If I play Tchaikovsky, I play his melodies and skip his spiritual struggle. ~Liberace

Davo-London
Ditto, I saw him live with Weather Report. What a legacy to leave behind though. Davo "We will make you bob your head whether you want to or not". - David Sisk

Edendude
Sad indeed. Time to break out the Shadows & Light DVD again, and celebrate the joy Don showed in performance. Has anyone heard any updates on Mike Brecker's condition? I heard he had cancer. My Last Band

Mark Zeger
Truly sad about Don Alias. I saw him with David Sanborn a few years ago and he just killed on a cajon (among other instruments). I never knew a wood box could be that musical. Re: Mike Brecker. I heard on Ramsey Lewis' syndicated radio show that a donor match had been found and he is responding to treatment. Any confirmation of this? It would be wonderful news.

From Brecker's website: Jan. 11, 2006 Michael was the recipient of an experimental haplo (half-matching) blood stem cell transplant in Minneapolis. His daughter was the donor. While Mike is seriously ill, every day out of the hospital is encouraging. We are hopeful but there is a long and difficult road ahead. There will be various future donor drive-by activities in which we could use your assistance and support. If you are interested, just send an e-mail to info@michaelbrecker.com and in the subject line write "I want to help."
