Rig Config poll

What kind of rig configuration do you use most often? You can vote for as many choices as apply, i.e. if you use a head with a 1x15 cab on the bottom and a 2x10 on the top, choose both of those. If you use a cab with different speaker sizes, explain that in a reply but vote for the cab with your largest speaker size: i.e. a cab with both a 15 and a 10 > choose 1x15. If you go direct from a SansAmp or Pod into the PA, choose None Of The Above. If you use a head and two 2x10 cabs, vote for "Head plus separate 2x10(s). That's why there's a little "s" in parentheses after the cab. Sorry for not giving a separate option for preamp plus poweramp. That would make this particular poll way too long. This poll is born out of my curiosity regarding different people's speaker set ups and whether or not they use a "combo" or "separates." For the purposes of this poll, all of the choices including the words "Head plus ..." should be interpreted as including preamp/poweramp rack rigs as well as traditional bass amp heads.

I'll start a "Head config" poll later where the choices include as many different ways of processing and amplifying the sound of your bass before it gets to the speaker as I can think of! Pod, SansAmp, Avalon, Walter Woods, Mackie, Stewart World, QSC, Crown, Ashdown RPM-1, yada, yada, yada....

Indoors it's a rack with 1x15 and 1x12.

Outdoors it's the same rack + power amp, a 1x15 and a 1x15 with twin 8's. Booooyaah!

Alex

For this poll I meant "rack" (separate preamp + poweramp) and "head" (preamp and poweramp combined) to be used interchangeably. Sorry for not making that clear. So you could vote for "Head plus 2x10(s)."

My aim was more to find out about speaker/cab configurations as opposed to preamp/poweramp configurations. I figure that's a whole 'nother poll...

This is where drummers get jealous. The Yamaha HipGig kit is about the closest we can get to "carrying all we need in a gig bag!"

What kind of in-ear monitor system do you use?

Shure PE-2, I believe. My singer bought it. We all use them. It takes some getting used to, but, it's great to be able to hear everything you want to hear and can control the volume. Besides, almost every single gig I have ever played, the bass goes through a DI and then to the amp. This cuts out the hassle of fighting with the sound guy trying to hear yourself. But, we have a great sound guy. We bring our own everywhere. Plus, it doesn't hurt that he owns his own sound company and sells and services PA gear.

cornbread, sounds like a great situation (no pun intended).

I'm one of the 1x10 combo people. Love my little Yorkville XM50C...but it's all I've got! Good thing I don't have any gigs demanding more of a rig. I just play at my church with my amp in front of me on an amp stand and an XLR line out to the PA. Works great for that.

I'm surprised that at this point in the poll, there aren't any 1x18 users! I have fond memories of the huge 1x18 stand alone cab we used in jazz band in college...it was called "The Bullfrog."

Sorry to the 1x8/2x8/Henry the 8x8 people who got left out of the running...as a token of my apology, I shall offer some photos of the Ampeg Portabass PBC228.

No 2x12 combo users yet . . . as in Carvin's BRX212 800 watt combo amp:

Now I'm using head and 2x10 and/or/1x15. But in a few weeks, I'll write back with righteous indignation that you didn't include any adequate options for those of us with the Phil Jones 5" speakers.

...I'll get in on the head + 1x18 although I've been jumping back and forth between that and a 1x15 combo...for outdoors I'm planning on running the DO through the PA subs. For those with PA subs...do you chain the mains off of the subs or run the subs and mains from their own channels?

I've played through a 1x18 cab for more years than my 1x15 combo or my Head+4x10, but I listed all of them. (can't wait to team up my 4x10 and the 1x18 - I shall totally dominate my band. MWAH-HA-HA-HAAAA!!) :D

Sorry about that, DafDuc; my bad. What kind of 4x10 combo do you have? I haven't seen too many of them, but here are some Ashdowns I know of...
