Cup_dup1
Hi, I'm currently looking for a new band, and while looking through my local musicians wanted classifieds, I came across an ad that read something like... Wanted: Bassplayer for local singer/songwriter, would prefer an URB player, drummer has expressed an aversion to spoonjobs...blah, blah, etc. I've never heard of this term, though obviously spoonjobbing gets up drummers noses! Can anyone enlighten me? Cheers, Conor. Grizzly Bears Don't Fear Anyone. Angry Cheetahs Emerge Growling. I reserve the right to change my opinion at any time! BenLoy
Hey, Cup...welcome back! Never heard of a musical term called "spoonjob"...maybe the last bassplayer kept trying to climb into bed with the drummer???
zeronyne
Urban dictionary link. You've been warned. It ain't pleasant. "For instance" is not proof.
wraub
Maybe the drummer doesn't like to play spoons as an instrument, or dislikes the smaller, quieter type of gigs that would entail. Or maybe he's averse to soup? Peace, wraub I'm a lot more like I am now than I was when I got here.
Cup_dup1
Hi Benloy! The phrase has me baffled, and as the ad was posted by a very well respected singer/songwriter I assumed it was a well known term amongst gigging/pro musicians! And since it was specified by the drummer, I then thought it must be a rythym section term. I put my name forward anyway, I'd just like to know what spoonjobbing consists of before I audition. Cheers, Conor. Grizzly Bears Don't Fear Anyone. Angry Cheetahs Emerge Growling. I reserve the right to change my opinion at any time!

Cup_dup1
Right, so it ain't a musical term!! I think the drummer has something to hide, he protests too much! *I didn't intend the 1st topic on my return to stoop to such lows folks. Honestly! Grizzly Bears Don't Fear Anyone. zeronyne
Actually, now that I did a bit more research, it may have a less "prisonesque" meaning over the Pond. Sorry! "For instance" is not proof.
Cup_dup1
Tell all Zeronyne, I want to lose this naivety! Does crossing the Atlantic beautify the term any? g.
Anyway, f#$@#ing in the ass is as likely to happen in the tri-cities area as the San Francisco region. Look for those prisons. GTRBass
Ya'll have some twisted minds! A spoonjob is a player who needs to be spoonfed, because they either can't play, or have little ability to learn their parts, so somebody has to teach them.
