Hi, my name is Michele a 53 years old bassist from Milano. I have been playing bass for four years. Before having the call I played guitar, then a friend of mine told me he needed a bass player.

I now realize that I have been dancing to the bass line for the last 30 years. And have so much more fun and originality on four strings than I did before.

I have not been playing for long, but tried every day to get better fast.

I also have studied flute and played in a flute quartet. I usually got 3rd or 4th flute, mostly bass lines :-) sustaining harmony while flute #1 and #2 where flying.

I wish I could play jazz as much as I like it, but

I feel top of my job in classic rock and blues.

Welcome aboard the train MC! One thought, we refrain from swearing here so next time use the word g****r sparingly. Okay, bad joke. But it also looks like you could have the Jethro Tull covers down and ready to go!

Enjoy and shore your knowledge... lord knows I need it more than most!!

Sure.

I'm new (really?) and I'm pretty new to bass too actually..I've been playing for about 8 months now. Haven't played anything except trumpet before but I find it comes naturally.

I have an Ibanez GSR-200 that I'm starting with, and I have a Fender Rumble 60 amp. Live in a small town and unable to drive yet (only 15) but I still managed to get invited into a band. Doesn't sound great because 2 of the members can't read music or even rythm but hopefully I can whip them into shape. Got to start somewhere right?

Not much more to say right now.....

Great to have you in the Forum. 15 may be too young to drive but certainly a great age to start playing bass. I'm glad to hear you are playing with a group. Do you have teacher? What kind of music do you prefer? Your bass and amp are a good choice and will serve you well. There are many great folks on this Forum and they can help you in many ways.

Welcome,

Rocky

Hi, Im Chris and im 23. I have been playing bass since I was 14 years old and have played in several small bands. Currently I play in a band called De Soto Firefly.

I live in Glasgow and when Im not playing music I am a planner (thats right, one of those!!!).

I have a fair number of instruments but my favs are my Warwick Corvette 4-string and my newly acquired 93/94 Fiesta Red MIJ Squier Precision Bass.

One thing I like is playing with effects, currently my rig goes like this.

Bass - EH Big Muff - Digitech Whammy IV - Nathan East Parametric EQ - Guyatone FL-3 Flanger - Ernie Ball VP JNR Volume Pedal - Line 6 DL4 - Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor - Boss TU-2 Stage Tuner - Marshall Bass 100 Head & Cab (all cables I use are George L's).

So what we think?

Haha actually I do have a cowbell and a few bits of Latin Percussion soundblocks, etc but I very rarely use them, now that the whole disco-rock thing has embraced such tools ive found them not relly to fit with my sound.

Phil W - Tell your wife to enjoy the Urban Planning Masters, London would be a great place to do that sort of stuff.

The course . . .

The MSc in Spatial Planning/International Planning (Bartlett School of Planning - UCL)

These programmes offer graduates of any discipline the chance to study for a professionally accredited (RTPI) qualification over a period of 12 months (full-time) or two years (part-time). The Spatial Planning programme provides a foundation in UK spatial planning for non-planning graduates, while the International Planning programme adopts an international focus, and may appeal to non-planning graduates who hope to work in the planning field overseas. Both programmes also provide specialist knowledge and skills in urban regeneration, urban design, transport and sustainable development or European planning. Students should initially apply for the Spatial/International Planning programme. Students on either programme have the opportunity to upgrade to MPhil and then to PhD in Town Planning after successful completion of the initial taught elements

Sorry for the OT guys!

Tsup. I'm Rick. Just joined. I used to play a lot of bass (guitar) from 17 to 27 (years old). Then didn't play much of a lick until now, at 38 years old. Ha! I hit the wall mostly due to my lack of faith in my ability to progress musically. But I had already regained that faith in the last few years by studying vocal music. Now my outlook on the bass is completely re-vamped. How about that? And in my vocal training, I learned to read music to boot (finally) and train my "mind's ear", both of which are helping me a lot for bass playing. :-) Cheers, --Rick

Welcome back to the low end.

So.. can you sing and play? You should be able to find tons of gigs if you can manage this, especially if you are in cahoots with a drummer.

Welcome Rick,

There are some folks here that picked up bass later in life, and some who took a "break" during the "kids and career" years (that would be me). With reading now in your "arsenal", you'll make good progress. Most of all - get out there and try playing. I think you'll be surprised by how much you can do!

I'm Logan. I've been on here for about a week and a half i guess. I started playing bass after my buddy threw out his back about 4 years ago. Because he couldn't do sports any more for a while, he picked up the guitar and so I picked up the bass when I was 14. Loved it and have been playin ever since. I've only done a few gigs so far in my young 4 year playing career and had a blast doing them. I'm writing a paper for my university composition class using this site as a major reference, and I'd like to once again thank all those who helped. (The paper is due Thusrday and I'll have it up soon thereafter I suppose). I love playing all styles of music and having jam sessions with my buddies. I dabble with the guitar and drums. And other that that I'm a typical college kid trying to have some fun before that thing called "the real world" gets a chokehold on me.

Hello all, I am Anthony from NYC, grad student, and been around the forum for a few months, but just stumbled onto this thread...

I am 22 years of age and have been mentally playing the bass since I was twelve, but I just recently started to physically play one 8 months ago..lol.

I have always been a fan of music in general, my father was a classic rock guy (Led Zeppelin, Beatles, Rush etc) and my mother was a MoTown gal (four tops, staple singers, etc). With this background firmly intact, I jumped into the 90s rock and metal scene with such bands as Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Metallica, all that good stuff. Currently spinning Dream Theater and Symphony X.

I am primarily using a Fender Standard Jazz V (with seemingly different pickups each month), but see a MusicMan in my future...

The guys that made me want to pick up the instument include, but are not limited to Geddy, Geezer, Burton, Sheehan, JP Jones, McCartney, Myung, and a host of others.

I am currently looking for a band to fool around with, I'll let you know how that goes.

Hey rizzo9247,

Any time you need a shopping run, let us know in advance. There are lots of fun places to go....and the NYC crew can often join in.

Welcome!
