Ooops, the 4th note is a descending Major third. The exact notes are GGG Eflat, FFF D.

I know what you were thinking...E flat is a sixth away from G. However, you really need to add the "descending" part...

Don't think anyone's mentioned "Whole Lotta Love" by Led Zep. Did anyone else read the story about some guy who played that riff so much (on g*****r) that one of his neighbours got so sick of it that he went in and stabbed the guy to death to make him stop playing that riff? I know I shouldn't be flippant about things like that, but you have been warned.

jesus lizards "skull of a german."

modest mouse "talking shit about a pretty sunset."

first, my seconds... i second the nominations of iron man, mississippi queen, and a few others that i nodded my head to upon reading.

second, my firsts:

amazing grace?

curtis mayfield "superfly"

stevie wonder "superstition"

and for all you headbangers out there... the first four bars of master of puppets.

Eeeeeehhhhhhhhh.

Bo knows this -- what?

And Bo knows that -- what?

Well, since we're including rap, what about "My Adidas" by Run DMC. Jay, Rest in peace, my friend.

And it was Sound Garden you were thinking ofthat did "Black Hole Sun."

How about movie tunes? Jaws, The Godfather, James Bond, Oompa Loompa (Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory).

And, of course, all of the Christmas songs.

I forgot "No More Tears" by Ozzy. How about Patrick's favorite "Born In The USA" by the Boss? The Police's "Every Breath You Take" which is always mistaken for a love song but it's actually about a stalker. "Jamie's Crying" by Van Halen, "Unholy" by Kiss, "Night Songs" by Cinderella (I've got the DMX on the 80's station), The Vapors' classic "I Think I'm Turning Japanese", "Separate Ways" from Journey, "Epic" from Faith No More.......brings back memories

You guys call yourselves bassists? Stanley Clarke's "SchoolDays." Or Mingus, "Goodbye, Pork Pie Hat" a song redone by all the greats. And Victor Wooten's double thumb technique, all those triplets.

We are going for most recognizeable songs, not necessarily most recognizeable to bassists.

Anyways, if we're talking about tv shows now...

themes from

Friends

Sienfeld

Simpsons

If we're talking about recognizable riffs, why not one that probably 90% of the entire world's population knows - Another One Bites The Dust by Queen?

Okay, maybe not 90%. But lots of people anyhow.

How about. . .

"In My Life" -- The Beatles

"Michelle" -- The Beatles

"Birthday" -- The Beatles (MAN, did they have the riffs!)

"25 Or 6 To 4" -- Chicago

"Sir Duke" -- Stevie Wonder

"Low Rider" -- WAR

"With or Without You" -- U2

"Give It Away" -- Red Hot Chili Peppers

All your bass are belong to us!

And who could forget. . .

"Two Princes" by the much-overlooked and under-appreciated Spin Doctors. GREAT band. Pick up an album or two ("Homebelly Groove" is my favorite) if all you've ever heard are their radio hits. I promise that you will be pleasantly surprised.

All your bass are belong to us!

More than one hehe!

1. I Saw Her Standing There - Beatles

2. Cheek to Cheek - don't know the songwriter, but I got the video of Jane Monheit  performing this. Great tune.

3. Jump - Van Halen

4. The Real Me (is the title right?) - The Who

5. Talking In Your Sleep - The Romantics (I play this in my dance band).

More later if this thread is still around...

I know Bo, played with him for over twenty years. Bo did rap before any of those called rappers existed.

I have basses to play, places to be and good music to make!
