BNC
In the spirit of davebrownbass's thread about famous chords, tell us what the most well know riff is... My all-time biggest vote goes for the first for notes in Bethooven's 5th Symphony (3 repeated notes followed by a 4th below) For rock music, I'll thrown in Walk This Way, there are plenty more I could think of, but I'll save some for everyone else. And again, I suggest String Cheese Incident, as they do an awesome rendition of Take 5, with a real bluegrass twist. And Blister, I need to master that one, too. I knew there was something I was missing.

BNC
Big props to sweet willie for take 5 Another jazz tune would be salt penuts by dizzy/bird and sing sing sing by benny goodman. There is another that i can't remember the name of right now, this is a strange relation to it, but it is the song that grandpa simpson plays when he has his girlfriend dump him beacuse he doesn't have a car (storms up into his room). That rerun was on recently, anyone remember the song or have any clue what I'm talking about? gotta have voodoo child my girl stand by me anyone got some rap? I'll throw in gangsta's paridise, can't touch this/superfreak (take your pic), and the real slimshady (whether you like it or not, you know when it comes on, admit it)
patrick_dont_fret
(whether you like it or not, you know when it comes on, admit it) Yeah, I've got all of Bruce Springsteen's opening riffs memorized so I can change the channel real quick. Why is he the boss again? IMO, he sucks. He can't sing, but that's just me. And anything rap, you can just tell, whether it be the synth or synth drums. Of course, I never listen to that stuff, so I don't have to know when to change it.
_Sweet Willie_
Rap? Tough call, 'cause in some cases it's a sample of a riff from another tune. A couple of good examples... "Rapper's Delight" -- I'm sorry, but when I hear that line my mind goes to this tune and not to "Good Times" "Can I Kick It?" A Tribe Called Quest/"Walk On the Wild Side" Lou Reed Other rap/hip hop tunes (goin' ol' skool, folks!)... "Jam On It" has a distinctive bass riff. "White Lines" Peace. Greg A
I glad someone mentioned rap. What a treasure chest of great bass lines. I've really been getting into hip hop lately and even though a lot of it is sampled, a lot of it is also original (check out the beastie boys). The samples are generally credited in the liner notes, so as a result I've been turned on to many great artists who wrote those lines in a different context. Sorry, back on topic: How about "Groove is in the Heart"? -------------------------- Peace http://www.thetimecircus.com http://www.myspace.com/medullaoblongataband
