Thanks for the Corona!

I'll buy the next round... Dos Equis for everyone, please...and, of course, we'll need something fiery for the Dos Equis to put out...something with a hearty helping of habaneros... :D

Historically, it's a pretty cool thing to celebrate. But yeah, for most people, it's an excuse to go eat Mexican food and get blasted...

Bienvenidos a Nuestro For... :eek::D

No Dan, in the "5 de Mayo" battle, the mexicans defeated French invasors. Mexico's Independence day is September 16th.

Excellent info, KEN :thu: ... Nice Spanish, too.

Gracias!

If memory serves, a small Mexican army of 4000 fighting under Colonel Diaz defeated a much larger French army of 8000 (if you include the traitor Mexican troops fighting alongside the French) and sent 'em packin'.

Now, no country is an island. We don't live in a vacuum. What our Mexican brothers did seems to have directly affected our own American Civil War!

According to the link I previously posted, "When the battle was over, many French were killed or wounded and their cavalry was being chased by Diaz' superb horsemen miles away. The Mexicans had won a great victory that kept Napoleon III from supplying the confederate rebels for another year, allowing the United States to build the greatest army the world had ever seen. This grand army smashed the Confederates at Gettysburg just 14 months after the battle of Puebla, essentially ending the Civil War."

Now that's some pretty darn good help (uh, unless you're pro-Confederate) from our southern brothers. So all of you, Mexican and American, go out there, arm and arm, and tip back a few Negro Modelos and revel in the fact that Cinco de Mayo is ultimately a holiday for all of us.

And our Mexican brothers, take a bow!!!
