OT / SPAM: My first Video Clip

Recommended Posts

Hello there!

My band's debut CD (WoM - Vida Fraktal / Fraktal Life) will be launched into the american market in the first week of June 2005 by Universal Latino, and we're just finishing the video clip of the first single to be released, "let me love you" (déjate amar).

It is Low-Res, still missing contrast / HUE adjustments and some other video artifacts which will be covered in the final version, but I wanted to share it with you as it is right now.

WoM - Dejate Amar (Let Me Love You)

It's in QuickTime Video format (16 MB)

All comments will be welcome!

Well, the final, commercial version of the CD is slightly different, but basically the same stuff...

Video was rather pretentious and the girl was wearing a schoolgirl outfit... which could add some controversy and speculation as to what the song is about, but I don't understand a word of Spanish.

In advance, these are just the vibes I got from the video, don't take offense. Everything I do is pretentious anyway, and I seem to get away with it.

Well.. thanks. Pretentious might be a very good or a very bad definition for the video... could you ellaborate?

Of course, having me acting like a dark raper and the model dressed like that has a well defined purpose: call for your attention.

Well, I thought the way you presented yourself was overdone. There's "cool" and theres "trying to be cool". I really don't mean to be a prick, but I'm only sharing my honest opinion. That's what we all want, right?

Aand now that you bring it to mind the video did have a dark connotation to it... dark isn't bad (well look who's talking), but I think others might misunderstand or obviously get the underlying message, if there is any.

I liked it, fwiw.

Looking at the demographic, in general, I don't know that 'overdone' is such a problem.

I mean, Mexican soap operas are *ultra* overdone on purpose for a reason!

I didn't think the video was overdone though... and I like the bit at the end like you're crazy and it was all 'delusional'. :)

ACK! Leave the shades on next time Gus.

:D

I thought you guys did a good job on the video, over all. Not my genre but still got me going.

Good Luck. I hope it gets you going up here. Then you'll have more excuses to visit.

Hey, I thought it was good! It looks like a music video! I'm monolingual, and obviously not in Spanish, but I still got what was goin' on. (Probably.)

I especially liked the T-Zone/Hitchcock/O. Henry kicker at the end.

When people do not speak my language and still gets the main idea of the video, I can know I did transmit the message/idea I originally wanted in it.

Thanks for your comments. Great you enjoyed the ending of the video. :)

To make it even easier, here's a translation of the original lyrics:

** Let me Love You **

Everytime I see you

I can see how sad you are

I feel I always breathe

in sync to the way you walk

Everytime I see you

I know you want me to go your way

but anything happens

I just keep watching you going away...

Sometimes I feel a spin in my head

I don't know how and don't know why

you never leave your heart

to open it's doors to me...

(CHORUS)

Let me love you, Let me be with you

taking care of your breathing while you sleep

let me touch, let me taste

all of your sweetness, to make it real

Let me love you, Let me be with you

guiding you in a wild ride just to take you

to the bottom of your dreams

up to the edge of the universe...

(BED WITH ROSES SCENE STARTS)

I have prepared

a very special place for us to be

where you'll find

everything you dreamed off with me

I would like to know how to convince

to those violently sad eyes

and make you forget

that everything will be gone with the wind...

Let me love you, Let me be with you

taking care of your breathing while you sleep

let me touch, let me taste

all of your sweetness, to make it real

Let me love you, Let me be with you

guiding you in a wild ride just to take you

to the bottom of your dreams

up to the edge of the universe...

(SPEAKING)

Let me be with you

taking care of your breathing while you sleep

let me touch, let me taste

all of your sweetness, to make it real

Let me love you...

BTW ALL comments are welcome.

Maybe it's too pretentious for some people and I have to consider that for the second single, specially because the CD is going to be marketed first in the US.

Maybe this is not a "video forum" but I trust in your perception of how good or bad a video can be, the message transmitted, etc.

I sincerely appreciate the bandwidth and time you spend just to give me your comments.

Pretty cool! :thu: I like the ending a lot, but I would have made the ending sequence in the hospital a little longer, and maybe even with some dialog, kind of like a mini-movie, but that's just me.

Pretentious? 99% of videos in the 'dance' genre are pretentious, it's part of it. Ever watch European dance music videos?

How long did it take to shoot?

Maybe you can also try to gather some interest of labels in Europe, Spain maybe?

Hi there!

The final version of the video includes some more angles of the hospital, but no dialogs.

We shoot all of it in 4 days, in Guatemala and Antigua Cities, Guatemala. Another 2 days for editing and 4 more days for FX and color corrections. It was all recorded in mini DV cameras, then dropped it all into VEGAS VIDEO 5.0.

I'm going first after the hispanic market in the US, then the rest of latin america and then, Spain, that's the usual way it works for us.

Thanks a lot for your comments.

Hi sign!!!

She is Pilar Núñez, a well known TV (morning news type) star in Guatemala.

Looks perfect in those clothes, right?

BTW she had the right attitude all the time, it was a pleasure working with such a professional girl.

RRRRRRRRRRRRicco Suave!

Gus, it wasn't pretentious. The ending kept it from being pretentious. I mean, if I'm understanding the vid, basically you're this nutcase with obsessive fantasies about a female Doctor or Nurse who works at the asylum you are residing in?

What's so clever about it is that we don't discover this until the end of the video. We see the last few seconds and then we realize everything prior was going on in your mind. Very clever.

I couldn't understand a word you were saying, but that's okay. In my opinion, the best videos don't have anything to do with the subject matter of the song.

Examples include:

Ashes to Ashes -David Bowie

Anything by Art of Noise

Human Behaviour -Bjork

I liked your video.

About your band;

Are you a two piece? Do you guys have everything sequenced and then play along with it?

Just curious.

Ooooooh....

We had a hispanic girl named Pilar join my school late in the semester, back in 8th grade. My god she was gorgous. Her younger sister was too.

Dark skin

Long silky black hair

Perfect breasts.

The kind of girls you would never think about asking out, because you just know what the answer would be.

Of course, that's probably why they never had any dates.

Oh, if I could only do it all over again, the things I would change!!!!

Thanks for the NICE comments, Super 8.

We don't deserve to be mentioned next to Bowie, Bjork or Art of Noise, but Hell, looks great. Thanks.

We're a THREE piece band. We have all of our show sequenced in LIVE (running in a Mac) and have another two laptops running video for the show and soft synths, playing guitars, keys and singing on the top of the backing tracks.

Did you guys have like an actual budget for the video???

Guitars were put at the front in the final Mix of the song; BTW that's a very shitty audio resolution in the video sample... but yes, there area lot of guitars in it.

The budget for the video included bringing us three all from different cities in Mexico to Guatemala for one week and pay the guys shooting the video, hotels for locations, meals for everybody and final editing... but we wanted to have "the vibe" of making it out of Mexico.

That's the same thing I said to this dudes when I saw the video. Except for the dialog part. No dialogs.

That ending kicks serious ass.
