Can we talk about the Roland VR 700 again?

The action on the VR700 (and the earlier VR760) made it super-desirable.

Ah, yes, *that's* the model I had -- the VR760.

Nord Electro (depending on your definition of "moderately-tweakable") or Stage, and Hammond SK73 are today's contenders.

Yes, a far cry from the $500 I paid for that used Roland! 🤣

don't want to be annoying in any way  .... but please don't reference ctrlr.org anymore: the website is abandoned by its owner and 'out off date' ;)
VR09/730 editor is here: https://v-combo.webspace.rocks/editor-vr09-730

VR700 editor (which adds 'hidden' functionality to 700) is here:  https://v-combo.webspace.rocks/roland-vr700-v-combo-editor

I cannot currently access these links, I'm getting an error: "This site can’t provide a secure connection"

Maybe this is the best place for a shameless plug! Our now not-so-new new video at https://youtu.be/3ZRC3b4p4EI is a 40 minute adaptation of T. S. Eliot's "Prufrock" - check it out! And hopefully I'll have something new here this year. ;-)

I think the older VR models (760 and 700) use a Matsushita (Technics) action whilst the newer 730 uses a Fatar.

Does anyone remember the latter models in old Roland EP line (7e, 77 and 760) I still own an old EP760 and it has a nice semi weighted action. (And an handy tool for practices etc.) Also wondered if it was the same as those on the VR760. Certainly, they were all released around the same era.

From what I've read, the VR-730 uses the ubiquitous Fatar TP-8O.

right. the '730 Fatar spec' feels very much like the Hammond SK. The Nord 'spec' feels a bit different (some like it, some like because it's red, and some don't like it despite being red)
