zxcvbnm098
Great web series hosted by Brian Kehew, this one with Steve Porcaro. Quite interesting and fun stories about old gear...
nursers
Steve is such a great interviewee. My hour with him was brilliant, a real highlight Quote The Keyboard Chronicles Podcast Check out your fellow forumites in an Apple Music playlist Check out your fellow forumites in a Spotify playlist My Music: Stainless Fields
BRW
I love these types of things. And I agree, it really depends on the interviewee what you get out of them. It's fascinating how the most creative individuals navigated around the limitations of technology, like those early sequencers. And it's funny he mentions that combination of a short sampled attack and a sustained synth note - that's sort of the idea behind the Roland D-50, isn't it? I wonder if he gave Persing some ideas... And even the manufacturers are often clueless, especially Roland, it seems - the TR-808 was supposed to "replace" a real drummer and was considered a "failure" when it didn't; the Jupiter-8 was supposed to be the ultimate "realistic" synth with these flute and brass attempts as presets (and dedicated buttons...). ABECK
Got to love Steve. I like this vid from the 80s. Clearly a lifelong student and enthusiast. Some people play from the fingers. Some from the wrist. Steve plays from the shoulder...lol. Every button press is like he's trying to break something!!

Jonathan Hughes
Well, I think it's safe to say he's in an altered state of some kind in that video. It's been posted here before, and I'm not the first person to say that the synth modules in that videos aren't the only thing that are "wired". ABECK
It's no secret it was snowing a lot back in those days. But he's always had a unique "full body" approach to the way he addresses the keyboards. He's always so into it - love it.
Jon G
I've met Steve a couple of times, once at a private party for Yamaha at the NAMM show a few years back and recently at a memorial service for a mutual friend of ours in November 2019. He was cool - super friendly, nice guy.
