dalpozlead
Maybe I'm missing something really simple here... but can't connect my Launchkey controller to my old Roland Rack (MIDI only) with the UM-ONE MIDI/USB interface... I have a power supply for the controller but even with this the Roland Rack isn't recognizable... help please?
AnotherScott
USB controllers need to be connected to USB hosts. That interface is designed to connect 5-pin MIDI gear to a USB host (like a computer). To directly connect a USB controller to 5-pin MIDI gear, you'll need a different kind of interface, e.g.: http://www.hobbytronics.co.uk/usb-midi-converter http://www.kentonuk.com/products/items/utilities/usb-host.shtml https://www.excelvalley.com/product/midi-usb-din-converter/ http://compasflamenco.com/midi-c-3/usb-host-midi-2-p-6.html https://www.thomann.de/gb/mode_machines_cerebel_usb.htm https://www.thomann.de/gb/miditech_usb_midi_host.htm Maybe this is the best place for a shameless plug! Reezekeys
From what I see, the Launchkey has a USB-B port. The UM-ONE has a USB A plug. How are you even able to connect them to see that the rack "isn't recognizable"?

dalpozlead
I have a USB B->A adapter (I use when out of type B cables...)
AnotherScott
Ah. The first clue that some USB thing probably won't work would be if it requires using that kind of adapter. ;-) Seriously, A and B are different shapes not to make everyone's life difficult, but because their mates are *functionally* different (host and slave), and they want to make sure that you don't do something silly like try to plug one host into another host or one slave into another slave. The incompatible ends assure that they will be used correctly. Adapting an end to the opposite shape usually just assures that you can use something in some wrong way that won't work. ;-) The adapters seem more useful as part of extensions, or adapting micro-USB/OTG which can perform both functions. Here are a few more: https://www.bome.com/products/bomebox https://www.iconnectivity.com/products/midi/mio10 https://www.iconnectivity.com/products/midi/mio4 https://www.iconnectivity.com/products/midi/iconnectmidi4plus Note: There are other iConnectivity interfaces, but I don't think they can act as a USB host for a USB-MIDI device, because they don't have the right type of USB port. MPN21
One might want to get a USB MIDI host that supports USB hubs and multi USB midi controllers. The Bomebox and iConnectivity Audio 4+, both of which I own, might be an overkill. I like the ones by Comas Flamenco. This model comes with a configuration editor. https://compasflamenco.com/midi-c-3/usb-host-midi-router-uhmr-p-8.html
