Kansas City piano player that made me rush every Friday night to get the best seat at The Phoenix. Dan was always a great entertainer. He became a great friend and he's a huge influence when it comes to my playing style. Yesterday I just learned from his daughter that his cancer has returned and progressed beyond treatment. This is extremely sad news, but it is comforting to know that he is home, surrounded by friends and family. I learned so much from him. He is part of a beautiful history and he is definitely a great man. A big reason why I love KC, a big reason why I keep playing and why I love life and music today. Too bad he's terminally ill, but at list he's surrounded by his loved ones (imagine how many great musicians were alone in these difficult times).
