Kronos Power Supply Issue

My Kronos X is losing power. At times it can stay on for hours, other times I switch on and then seconds later it goes off. It happens in both boot and also when playing. Done some digging around and it seems there is an issue. I have barely used it the last six months but when I was gigging last year I never lost it once and that was without a UPS too.

I am using a UPS at home and to check it it's ok, I have disconnected the power and its running off the UPS fine under battery back up. But this intermittent powering off is bad news.

Have any of you guys had this with your Kronos. I dread to think how much they'll charge for a new onboard PSU.

I don't have the auto power off on mine, but like I say it can lose power seconds after switch on, to hours later.

Nice unit but I sometimes think its a bit too clever, the same way my Muse Receptor used to be, in locking up occasionally!

It would be wiser to post about this issue on the unofficial Korg forums ..

Or even beter, to contact Korg representive

If you ask the specialists on the Korg forums, they might have a trick however for a cheap repair with a standard pc powersupply

Before you go pulling the Kronos apart, have you checked to make sure you're not using a smaller-than-average power cord that may not be seated firmly in the socket?

I know you're in the UK, but here in North America there are some cheap knock-off IEC cords that have some 'wiggle room' in the socket, so it could be something as simple as that.

Otherwise yeah, off to your local Korg service centre to have it checked out. :2thu:

Don't screw around with anything that could be an internal power supply issue. Get it to a authorized repair center or it could need a whole lot more than a power supply and backup everything no a new backup file name..

+1 Had this problem with a keyboard (not korg) myself. Mine even looked like the cord fit well, but it didn't. I finally discovered that I had accidentally switched the power cords from one of my other pieces of equipment. Switched it back, no more problems. I looked at both cords and really didn't see much difference, but something was different. Both cords tested ok, and the problem cord worked fine on other pieces of equipment.
