snazzyplayer
Anyone here know what kind/type of instrument that the keyboardist in SBB is playing...it's the upper one with the grey and black keys in the lower octave? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qklFstUNeBo&feature=related Here is a better view: Appears to be some kind of preset synth. Sven Golly
I listened to about 15 seconds of that noise... what difference could it possibly make? Take anything, run it through a ring modulator and apply white noise, and you've got the same thing.
snazzyplayer
So, you obviously don't know either. Ha ha. I hope someone recognizes it...judging by the date of the video, it is probably from the early 70's. Meisenhower
I'm guessing that it looks like another old friend returns!! snazzyplayer
Meisenhower, are you familiar with the instrument in question? The different colored keys in the bottom octave make it appear to be a combo organ...I think it may be Russian in origin. Also, the band is from Poland. marino
The upper keyboard is a Davolisint, a very old and primitive Italian synthesizer from the seventies, made by amplification firm Davoli.

marino
Well, I had one for a *very* short period. Here's a demonstration: [video:youtube] Somebody has even done a VSTi emulation! Here's a demo, which frankly, sounds better than the original... [video:youtube]
snazzyplayer
Man, you are awesome, Marino! Thank you kindly. I see the keyboardist, Józef Skrzek is still performing...I also see, in another video, he was using a keyboard I had for quite some time...a Polymoog 203A, which, in spite of it's rather dubious reputation for poor reliability, worked flawlessly for the several years I owned it (studio use only). Pete PS...and thank you, Mr.Golly, for the link. Here is another description, with a few demos, no less, and it's in English: http://www.synthmania.com/davolisint.htm Semper Gumby: Always flexible \:^)

It wasn't too bad until these ugly hairy male strippers showed up because this woman was celebrating her 40th birthday. Different SBB. Whew! snazzyplayer
Man I thought my SH-101 sucked. They do...I used to have one. I dusted off my old Yamaha CS-01 and started using it again...remarkable little instrument with a sound that belies it's size and cost. The Davolisint would only be of interest to a collector, although I must say, it looks really cool. marino
Talking of Italian synths of that pioneer period, this one sounds much better - I'd love to play one again.
