Ross Brown
Did I get your attention? hahaha.... We played a benefit yesterday.... the bands were set up in a barn. It looked like it would be a sound system disaster... much to everyone's surprise the acoustics were awesome... every band sounded great. This place would make a cool studio, except that it would get real cold in the winter.... and there is farm equipment in it... and rats... and snakes... strange, strange gig but the bands had fun. 4 great bands, all different styles from Bluegrass to rippin electric blues. If my barn were bigger, I would consider remodeling it to make a studio.... Cthulhu Fhtagn
Some of the best moments of my misspent youth were located in a barn - with a keg, a boom box and a couple score other teenagers - just out of "parent" range. Good times. Good, good times. Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn
Richard W
Sounds very cool. I imagine the wood plank walls set up a nice resonance like the body of an acoustic guitar. _Sweet Willie_
I played a gig in a castle in Italy back during my wayward youth. The acoustics were subpar and it was cold. Thanks. Peace. --SW spreadluv Fanboy? Why, yes! Nordstrand Pickups and Guitars. Messiaen knew how to parlay the funk.
The Bear Jew
I auditioned for a band several years ago. They rehearsed in a barn. And they sucked. I don't blame it on the barn, though. They would have sucked anywhere. \m/ Erik "To fight and conquer in all your battles is not supreme excellence; supreme excellence consists of breaking the enemy's resistance without fighting." --Sun Tzu
Tenstrum
Nothing wrong with playing in a barn. Just don't touch the farmer's still. Or his daughter. Tenstrum "Paranoid? Probably. jcadmus
I've done it in a barn. Played a gig, that is. Pig Pickin'/Barbecue/Country-Rock Jam at a friend's farm decades ago. That actually had it fixed up with a nice little stage and all. "Tours widely in the southwestern tip of Kentucky"
SteveC
I've done the barn thing a couple times. Wedding receptions. Lots of fun.
jeremy c
Great. Play in a barn, not only will the band sound like shit, it'll smell like shit too. I've played numerous gigs in caves. The sound is horrible and it's cold and damp. Free download of my cd!.

Cthulhu Fhtagn
Sorry I missed that. I thought maybe there was a bad experience with you, a band and a barn that might rival one of Brian's or Erik's compositions. picker
If I remember correctly, Neil Young's Harvest album was recorded in his barn. It sounded pretty good.... Always remember that you are unique. Just like everyone else.
Seamy ALB
I have done lots of things in Barns and I think the Barn could become the alternative venue of choice!! http://www.facebook.com/pages/A-Little-Bitter/185235472447
lug
I own a barn but have never played in it. Perhaps you have motivated me. At the very least my playing will certainly run off any rodents, varmints, bugs, and asundry other creatures who have no business in my barn. Thanks for the idea! The Geoff
Played many a Farmer's Union gig in barns back in the 60s. Cold, drafty & *extremely* iffy electrics. Maybe things have moved on in 50 years? G. Cthulhu Fhtagn
Yep. They most likely have light bulbs and running water, too. And maybe even (dare I hope) flush toilets? Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn
Ross Brown
Toilets were not the flushin kind.... I got in there early.... never went back... Light bulbs?... don't know... it was daytime... power for the bands came from extension cords run through a trapdoor that looked like something off of a hangman's rig... The good life.... BUT... no shit in the barn... it was all outside. Wally Malone
If you do flips from the rafters into the hay make sure you first check to see if there are any pitchforks in the hay!
