Ian Benhamou
Even sometimes something as simple as looking over and seeing what bass note the guy is playing! Man, I can't tell you how many times I floored people in jam sessions or auditions when I was able to play through the changes of a song I didn't know by looking at what the guitarist or the bassist were playing. SMcD
To extend the topic a bit further, could we say that different types of keys count as entirely different instruments? Keith Emerson is a virtuoso on piano, organ, and synth - could we consider him a "multi-instrumentalist?"
johnchop
Well, as if Jem Godfrey weren't enough of a shredmaster on keys, fairly fleet-fingered fits of fiddly finesse fly forth from his phalanges here @ 1:58 (and keys @ 3:00 for a stretch) [video:youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DdGA6bPPGfI Yikes. I make software noises.
