TaurusT
Needs stereo-in, going from the panel. Laptop with firewire. Pavillion dv8000. Any recommendations?
timwat
I'm not sure what you mean by "going from the panel". Also, when you say external soundcard, do you mean you're looking for firewire audio interface? Also, is this primarily for recording, gigging, both? Any other requirements besides stereo in? Do you need mic pres? Phantom power? I can tell you I gig a MOTU UltraLite and have been very pleased with it so far. There are higher end units like Metric Halo and Apogee, but you don't state a budget. ..
kanker.
The Metric Halo is Mac only (one of the best arguments out there to buy a Mac) I probably wouldn't go any cheaper than a Presonus Firebox, but would suggest stepping into the Motu at the very least. A ROMpler is just a polyphonic turntable.
JeffLearman
I guess he means fed line-level signals from a patch panel. For cheap & portable, consider M-Audio Transit for $80. USB, with 1/8" stereo I/O. MOTUs sound good; that's what I use in the studio. But with the UltraLight, you're paying for FX, which you may not have a use for.
