Dave Bryce
I admit it freely - I have a synth in my office. Right next to my desk. What it is changes (last week it was the Electro, this week it's the Quadrasynth Plus), but I always try to keep one here. It's great for stress, useful when I wanna flesh out a musical idea if one occurs to me here..and, of course, chicks dig it. Anybody else keep a keyboard instrument at their (otherwise non keyboard instrument oriented) day job? dB ==> David Bryce Music • Funky Young Monks <== Professional Affiliations: Royer Labs • Music Player Network
wjwilcox
Well, on the days that I go from work directly to band rehearsal, my Ensoniq SD1 sits in it's case outside my cubicle...the most common question: "Is that a case for short golf clubs?" www.wjwcreative.com www.linkedin.com/in/wjwilcox

I used to bring one in once in a while to play music at lunch time with other musicians, but that was a different time and place. Do you leave it there at night? I'd never do that. Too many thefts happen in offices all the time for me to be comfortable doing that. Steve (Stevie Ray) "Do the chickens have large talons?" eric
I work for a bank, so I really can't have a synth at my desk, unfortunately. What I do have that helps is a single octave of waterfall keys that I have screwed into a small board. I bought these off of eBay about 6 or 7 years ago and they came from a console Hammond organ. The action is not functional, but I can pretend and it is both a stress-reliever (kind of like a stress ball for my hands) and also a conversation piece. I'll have to snap off a photo and post it. Bridog6996
I spend my whole day at a piano, since my day job is piano teacher. Other than the teaching part, it's the best job I could ask for! By the way, there's a guy who works at my local supermarket who, on sunny days, will bring his keyboard to work, set it up right next to the entrance, and play for all the customers going in and out. He collects tips and gives them to charity. I always thought that was cool. My YouTube Channel

Dave E
I suppose I don't actually qualify for this survey - since I write music for a living - but I have two keyboards right at my desk. I did a mod to my desk that allows me to have an M-audio 49e right below my computer keyboard. I only use the M-audio for hyper-scribing notes into Finale. Much like the product that Delirium displayed, the top of the 49e serves as the hand rest when I'm typing. To the right of the computer keyboard is a mouse pad, and directly above the keyboard (and right below the monitor) is a music rack that will hold two pages of music. At the desk just behind me, I have a big, wide open desk top (about 30" by 70") with nothing on it so that I can spread out whatever I'm working on. Right below this desktop is an old Kurzweil SP76 that I use for writing. I like the semi-weighted action of the SP76, 'cause it gives me a workout without busting my chops on the long days. kad
Yes - lots of them. I develop software out of my home, and my work office and music studio are located in the same room. Sadly, I rarely get to play them - my day job is very demanding. Reality is like the sun - you can block it out for a time but it ain't goin' away... mcgoo
I also don't really qualify for this thread since I do this for a living, but what's funny is that when 1st time clients come in & our sales people give them a tour, they always save my room for last. Why? 'Cause the video editing suite is a guy & a computer, the graphics / animation suite is a guy & a computer, but my room is a guy, a computer, a keyboard (M-Audio KS Pro 88), a funny lookin' drumset (Trapkat) and a kick butt sound system. Everyone should have a drumset in their office. Talk about stress relief! Jeff Klopmeyer
There's a keyboard, a music DAW computer, five guitars, several mics on stands, and other stuff in this room where I work. If I was rich, I'd have a separate room that distinguished my office from my studio, but as I am not, I am surrounded my instruments all the time. mikeNZ1
>>I could bring trumpet to work...probably it would be the last day of my work though I work for BRANZ, specialising in building research. We have a 30 acre site with various test buildings a long way from anywhere, and stock wandering around eating grass. The manager of one of the test buildings is a keen organ and piano player, and lets me use it to practice. It is a 1200 sqf 'shed' with concrete floor and timber panelled roof so has a nice rich acoustic. I can play as loud as I like and it doesn't bother anyone. And the sheep really are not bothered. They looked up once when I first played (about 6 years ago), and they have never looked since. I suppose if they can't eat it, or it can't eat them, they don't care. SilverDragonSoun
I have access to 3 different pianos at my site as well as 13 other ones at different sites. Sometimes being a teacher has its perks. I also have access to a Roland RD700SX, Yamaha S90, A Korg O1W, Triton Extreme, and a Casio Privia (forgot the model). We used to have an Alesis Fusion but it had issues and the school district determined the cost to fix it wasn't worth it. I also have my own Yamaha P90 which I have had for quite awhile now and that thing continues to amaze me. The action is heavy but I can fly on other things after playing it so in a sense I used it to build my chops. While I have access to all these wonderful boards, I find myself playing the same Young Chang piano at my school. There's just something I like about it. I can't really specify it as the tone isn't the greatest nor is the action but I still like to play it as it works best for me. Go figure. I will say one of the things I noticed is how good those old Korg sounds were on the O1W. That was a pretty damn good keyboard for its time. Like an idiot I tinkered with just about everything else but that. I could have saved a lot of money and headaches had I bought that back in the day rather the six other keyboards I went through for various reasons.
